We hired David and Cheresh Homes to renovate our 60 year old family cottage - a 3 season dwelling built riverside on top of Canadian Shield rock in Muskoka. This was a 2 year project to renovate and update the property into a 4 season cottage. We also wished to maintain historical and legacy elements they were important to our family. Right from the start, David understood our vision and we felt comfortable with his design ideas and approach. It was important to us that he had the design build experience and expertise as a contractor to support this kind of large scale project. His pride of workmanship, creativity, attention to detail and strong relationships with local trades and contractors gave us the confidence that he was the right choice. He had genuine interest and excitement in our project and we felt immediate trust in him to make it happen. This was an extensive renovation project, taking place during the pandemic, which presented its own set of challenges. David and his team rose to the challenge and they handled our project professionally and with care. His crew and contractor tradespeople were respectful, friendly and responsive. We appreciated his suggestions and recommendations during the project. We knew he had other projects but always felt like we were his most important priority. He was always available to address our questions, help us make decisions and to offer ideas and options to save us time and money. We are beyond thrilled with the results. David and his team did a fantastic job in building us a cottage that will be enjoyed by generations of our family and friends. Embarking on a large renovation project like this is not for the faint of heart but with David and his crew on our team, we accomplished our goals and then some. David is a kind and genuine person. Is this a key competency for a contractor? Not necessarily, but it certainly makes for a better experience. Good impression initially we were having new floors installed interior doors and trim as well as a closet conversion. First red flag was the price to install the floor they quoted close to $5 a square foot when floor installers charge $2.25 to $2.50 a sq ft. I questioned and Warren lowered the floor quote but raised the overall bill . I questioned again and was told that again its just an estimate and if it takes less time then less money. They quoted for two closets but we told them we werent sure if we would do both. Again told if we arent doing that build them again bill would be less . I had new stairs installed by a stair company and yet again Warren quoted a few hundred dollars for repairs from stair replacement. I asked again why and was told if they dont have to do anything then the bill would go down. Also their estimate clearly states That the estimate can change based on the amount of hours worked! Well they worked 36 hours less then estimated. So given all that my bill should have under the estimate by 2 thousand yet there was only a $75 reduction from the estimate. And they still havent installed the trim they cut in the entrance ways. Warren told me not to quibble about the money as long as we were happy with the work . Well Im not happy besides some trim not installed two of the double doors dont close properly and they left a gap above the interior door that the trim didnt cover.
