We had an old front porch(built 1958) that was crumbling and starting to become a real danger. TGM replaced the porch with a new lafitt tandem wall. Project was completed on time, and communicated well with us throughout. When it came to design we left Dylan to do what he thought would work, he noticed our soffits had just been redone and suggested doing a dark border cap that would go nicely with it. When a defect happened with one of the caps, rather than possibly hide it or hope we wouldn't notice, Dylan pointed it out right away and fixed it. Justin & Dylan powered through some of the hottest days of the year cheerfully and efficiently. We've gone from the ugly duckling in the neighbourhood to a front of house of our dreams, we didn't know we could cause such rubber necking! Had a flood in a rental property, I live out of town and the property is in Brantford. George answered the phone first thing in the morning, told him the problem and he went over promptly and assessed the situation. Gave me some options, I took a leap of faith and hired him for services. When I did get down to see the clean up after it was complete, I was very impressed George did above and beyond the scope of work that we spoke of. Last year my husband and I were having installation issues with a new heat pump that wed purchased from another company. I posted a plea for help on the NextDoor app. Andrew was quick to reply with valuable information that helped us get resolution. So when the time came for our heat pumps annual maintenance inspection, we reached back to him. I mentioned we also needed to have an old natural gas line removed from our kitchen, and were happy to hear that Andrew was fully licenced to take care of both issues. He arrived on time, spent time adjusting our thermostat to a more economical setting, inspected the heat pump noting deficiencies from the original install, quickly removed the gas pipe, checked all remaining gas fittings and provided a clear explanation of the work hed completed and gave us a detailed invoice for the exact amount he had quoted. He was knowledgeable, thorough, friendly and professional. When he left there was no mess left behind and we had a better understanding of our equipment. CUSTOMER BEWARE Gregs Plumbing and Heating are dishonest, and not upfront about after hours rates.After hours rate starts very early, 4 PM.They start charging their exorbitant rate the second they get in their vehicle. Their Website states they are in Dundas. If you want to support locally owned companies, beware they are actually in East Hamilton Mountain. This company was paid for a job they did not complete in January 2024. Numerous requests to have the owner Greg contact us, the date and time set up to have a conversation, did not happen. They farmed out our job to a Sister Company who charges even more. We were not informed of this. The alleged facts stated by the company employees varied significantly depending on whom you spoke with. Theres a reason this company is not listed with BBB. We worked with Mark to re-finish our basement after we had a small flood. This was our first big renovation in our home and needless to say we learned a lot about the process from Mark! The basement was old, and needed a full gut down to the studs which included a full bath renovation, some laundry room work and the main area (insulation, new lighting, new flooring, additional support post installation for future upstairs wall removal, some HVAC). We also had Mark update a powder room on the main floor. From start to finish Mark helped us understand what was happening and made sure we were made aware of things they found when walls were opened up and plumbing and electrical was exposed. All of the sub-contractors were great and showed up on time and when we expected them per Mark, and Mark was very responsive if we contacted him with questions and really went above and beyond to make sure we were happy with the result. The work area was always kept exceptionally clean and was tidied at the end of each work day, which we really appreciated because we were still using the basement for laundry. I had 3 downspouts that were leaking at the elbow. I spoke with Rob on the phone who said that all 3 would be $500 plus materials. This was a fair price so I agreed. Rob said he would schedule his son, Dalton. I later had a phone call with Dalton explaining the problem and that I was travelling for work and wouldn't be reliably near the phone for a few days, but asked if he could repair the leaks if possible to be more cost effective to get the price below the $500 replacement quote. If not, I said he could replace the downspouts. I gave him my wife's number just in case. Dalton completed the work, sent photos, and an invoice on Dec 6 at 530pm. This is where it all went wrong. The invoice listed a "Minimum Fee" of $500+HST. I didn't like the surprise "minimum" fee nor the fact that Dalton used white caulking on our black/brown downspouts. I texted Dalton that I needed to discuss this with him when I was back from my trip on Dec 10. Dalton proceeded to call text me every day on the 7th-9th. He called my wife repeatedly asking for the money: she told him I needed to speak with him. He called me 5 times on the 10th while I on the plane home. I finished work very late on the 10th and didn't get to speak with him, which was my bad. During my workday on the 11, he called another 9 times and continued to badger my wife while accusing me of ducking his calls. I've never had a contractor be so aggressive in trying to get immediate payment. I called Rob that evening, and he apologized for Dalton's relentlessness. He maintained that he had told me about the minimum. I would have never agreed to a $500 minimum. None of my other trades works this way: even the licensed ones (HVAC, electrical, plumbers). Rob maintained this was because of the cost of gas and of the size of ladder and the size of his truck/trailer. We agreed to disagree about this, and Rob was able to get Dalton to trim $50 off the price. I should have insisted on a written quote (not verbal), but I never usually ask for one for small jobs like this. I paid the amount due immediately, but am not thrilled that I spent $450 for an hour's labour. Licensed trades are less than half that. Rob offered to fix the white caulking by covering it in black. He also offered to replace the downspouts if that's what I really wanted. I declined the replacement, mainly because after all of Dalton's calls to my wife and I, I didn't want him near the property. I have no problem paying trades or compensating people for their time or expenses. I do it regularly as part of my business. I don't like being misled about cost then being hounded for taking a reasonable time to ask questions before I pay the invoice. Dalton was paid in full 3 business days after I received the invoice.
