This business owner was amazing and a real breath of fresh air. He did an amazing job fixing our kitchen doors and his fee for the service was very reasonable. He is extremely pleasant and he possesses a strong work ethic. He is a highly qualified person as he was a civil engineer in his country and really knows what he is doing. We will definitely call on him often when we need work done. He gave us a quote that was ten times lower than the other company. He came to our house before proceeding and explained what needed to be done; while the other company owner just asked for photos and gave us an estimate without really seeing what needed to be done. Folks, if you are looking for an honest, hard working and pleasant person, Abdel is your man!!!

We chose Impressed Roofing because of the prompt response in providing a quote for the job. They covered all the major options and provided a very good set of basic items like GAF shingles, waterproof sheet around the edges of the roof etc. Although, we had a disagreement with the scheduling of the job, once it was settled the crew showed up early in the day to start the job. And, before 6pm, it was completed very nicely with no garbage left on the ground. I was very satisfied with the work.

I contracted Sunil at Woodline to build a custom home. My experience with Woodline Framing Company was highly unprofessional and frustrating. From the start, Sunil, the contractor, failed to fulfill basic responsibilities. Despite receiving clear instructions multiple times, he printed the WRONG set of construction plans, I had to drop off the correct set despite him having them in his possession, he missed key materials, including a large post and placed expensive orders for incorrectly sized beams, which led to significant delays and additional costs. He assured me that everything was accurate and even copied me on an email to the welder/steel supplier confirming the order, only for me to discover major errors that further stalled the project. Without prior notice or approval, Sunil subcontracted the entire job without disclosing this arrangement upfront. This unexpected subcontracting left me at risk, especially as it became evident that the subcontractors had not been paid. Sunil's approach to managing this project was not only careless but also financially reckless, as he failed to properly manage payments and overcharged me for work that was never completed. Additionally, I communicated to him that I was not to be used as his bank to pay his subcontractors as our agreement had clear milestones. I paid Sunil $23,000 plus taxes, and yet only one-third of the milestone was completed - I agreed, out of good-faith on my part (to pre-pay a milestone that wasn't completed believing he would pay his subcontractors and what he owed them). His lack of accountability and professionalism throughout the project has left me with escalating expenses and significant delays. We both agreed to terminate the contract and that I would work directly with the subcontractors that were doing the work instead. We both agreed to this - only to have him hire a law firm demanding that I pay him the full amount of the contract! What's laughable is that he wouldn't even be entitled to the full amount of the contract given he was subcontracting the whole project and had already been overpaid based on my contract with him - I'm entitled to a refund. Sunil did not know or understand basic framing fundamentals like screwing down posts on a wooden LVL beam. I told Sunil I had spoken to other framers and a builder and you never do that as there's nothing (no thread) to attach the post to the wooden LVL below. Regardless, his solution, was "I do it all the time" - which is a scary thought. Rather than admit he forgot a steel beam, he insisted that I ask my engineer to approve a wooden LVL. This is a nearly 7000 sq ft modern home and he would rather cut corners rather than replace the steel beam which I had to push him to do and fix (his subcontractors were able to swap that out and fix it). My only saving grace was that he agreed to terminate the contract and be out of the picture completely before it cost me more money. If you are looking for a reliable, trustworthy contractor, I would strongly advise against using Woodline Framing Company.

After paying for a brand new kitchen to be installed at our house, my wife and I were excited to be nearing the end of a month-long renovation project. One of the last things for us to do was to plug in our shiny new range hood fan into the custom hood cover that been designed for it. Unfortunately we quickly discovered that the kitchen cabinet company had not considered the height of the fan unit properly, meaning that our pre-existing duct vent hole was now approximately 8-10 inches too low for us to be able to install the new fan! What made the situation even worse was that we had just installed a quartz backsplash and I was worried that the vibrations from drilling a new duct hole would end up cracking the new backsplash. I posted a request for help on HomeStars and received a response from Luca at MGC Contracting within a few minutes. I explained the situation and said that even though I knew this was a relatively small job, it was something that would be required to save my marriage after living without a functional kitchen for over a month! Luca made time to come over the next day and take a look at the space in person so that we could discuss potential options. We ended up agreeing to move forward with cutting a new hole, as he promised that he could do it without risking any damage to the backsplash. He explained that he was already busy on another project but he made an exception and offered up some of his personal time so that we could get our kitchen up and running as soon as possible. Luca arrived on time on the day we had agreed to, and performed all the work efficiently and neatly. He and his crew member were very considerate and careful, and even went out of their way to make sure that the patch job they did to brick up our old duct hole was done in a way that you can barely see where they did their work. At the end of the day, I paid him what wed already agreed in advance with no hesitation as he had done a terrific job. Overall, I had a great experience working with Luca and his team and would highly recommend him to anyone looking for a trustworthy general contractor for any work around the house. Ive already let him know to expect a call soon for some retiling work that we have been putting off because we didnt have a good contractor to work with before. Thanks Luca, and thanks HomeStars for connecting us in the first place!

Ive been in the same boat as most people here, youre scouring the reviews hoping to gauge how good a potential contractor is. Ill give you the quick summary first: McLaren Custom Homes is now our trusted partner in any home project my family or friends get involved in. I say partner because you genuinely will feel you are collaborating with a company that is on your team. This is the first company Ive ever worked with that I can be completely honest about finances with. I cant stress enough how important that is on large projects. Now, for the long-winded version It actually started with a quote on a garage at my old house that convinced me that I could work with this company. Jons quote was more thorough than any other company I had spoken with. He was also the only one to discuss cost options while pricing instead of just demanding to know my top budget. It built a lot of trust that he was pricing the cost of the work and not just agreeing to my budget. I HATE when Im asked my budget first because I dont know the cost of each portion of work so I cant tell if Im being ripped off or not. Although we had decided to use Jon if we went forward, we sold that house and bought another property While house-hunting I decided to email Jon and ask how I could loosely estimate costs related to extensions or additions. Keep in mind, I wasted this guys time on a detailed quote for a project I never did. I wasnt expecting an answer. A couple days later I got a very long and detailed email describing general numbers I could use with examples of different levels of finish. He didnt respond right away to just get me off his back. He waited until he could properly respond. I told my wife we absolutely have to use this guy on whatever we buy. We bought an old house with a crappy layout and knob and tube wiring. We knew we had some work to do. Of course I had Mclaren come and quote on a complete remodel of the main and upper levels of the house. I was going to try to save money by leaving the basement and exterior alone. I got the same level of care I got for my previous quote. Detailed walk through with lots of notes and discussions on options. Sometimes Jon would lead me to a better solution than I planned. Sometimes I wanted what I wanted and Jon respected that. He wasnt the only one to quote. He was the only one to provide a quote that properly described all the work involved. It broke down the many layers and order of operations. I found myself wasting so much of his time on the phone discussing things and changing things. At that point I just hired him because we were already collaborating on this. Of course, I am not the easiest customer because as soon as we started I changed my mind about doing the basement and exterior. These were properly quoted and discussed to get solutions that fit my budget (which I now felt completely open discussing!). Of course, when dealing with an old house, you are going to run into problems. We ran into a few big ones including some structural issues. Jon would walk me through the problem and we would discuss the options and costs. Whether we needed engineering or specialized trades, the solution was always available. Jon also coordinated all the appropriate documents and inspections with the city. Right through to the end of the project, I was changing minor things or asking for some extras. These were all handled with the same level of care and cost-consciousness as all the scheduled work. One little touch that I loved was the project group chat. All the guys are on it and actively update. At any point in time I could get pictures or videos or send links for ideas I liked. It meant that I didnt just have access to Jon. I could directly speak to Ross or Dan about whatever specific things they were working on. Or we could all give opinions on options that would pop up. It kept everyone updated and on the same page. Why dont more companies do this?! I could keep going but you get the idea. In the end, I cant begin to describe how happy I am with how my house turned out. I got the look and quality I wanted at the cost I expected. I could have given these guys a stack of blank cheques and I wouldve spent the same exact amount down to the last penny. Absolutely impressed with their work. Wilson and his team came with a competitive bid on the project. The team was on time everyday and put in some serious time. They left our house at the end of day very tidy and ready to go the next morning. We chose an exceptionally difficult shower tile to install and the team powered through it. Again, the result is incredible. Very nice people to work with. Ill be reaching out to them again for the next project. Only criticism I will give is that it was our first Reno and we didnt know what to expect. A bit more guidance from the project lead in terms of material to select and options of customization earlier on would have been better. But we were still able to make decisions very quickly and are happy with what we chose. Thank you so much, team!

VERY HAPPY! Ayman did a wonderful job repairing a large crack in my 40 year old brick wall which had developed due to ground subsidence caused by poor construction practices, when a large new home was built next door. He gave hope after the uncaring and unscrupulous builder had denied any and all responsibility for the problem. Ayman came through with a job well done! Had this wall been left as it was, the problem likely would have become worse, maybe even causing the wall to fall over. I highly recommend A & K Masonry! Ayman is a gem in the building trades!

The duration of this job extended a little beyond what Chris originally predicted, but still very reasonable considering the complexity of the install. I appreciate that the time was taken to source a material I was fully satisfied with (other contractors claimed their options were limited). Chris and John did an excellent job, and Brittany was always prompt with replies throughout the booking process. I'm very pleased overall!

The whole team was professional and maintained communication from start to finish of the project. We had flood damage requiring replacement of drywall, taping, repainting. The flooring and stairs were also replaced as well as the doors and trim. Options were provided throughout to match budget and design choices and the final product matched what was promised. In the end we are very happy with all the work and thankful for the transparency and help along the way. It’s difficult to find a company that you can trust in this industry, Grizzly Construction is a true gem! 💎
