The front doors of my grandmother's house needed replacing so I chose Encore for the job. The doors were old and the door frames were wearing away. On top of that, a lot of outside air entered the home through the top floor balcony doors. This made it difficult to keep the top floor warm during winter and cool during summer. David helped me choose good quality new doors with half lites that look good and fit my budget. He is very knowledgeable about the product and made every effort to help me find what I needed. Plus, he was always available to answer any questions I had. I am very pleased with the look of the new doors and the workmanship. Since the installation I have noticed that little if any outside air has entered the home through the balcony doors. This has solved a huge problem for my grandmother and I. In a nutshell, Encore provided me with a quality product and great service. I would highly recommend them.

Sever Homes took on our dream project and transformed the central living space in our home to one that we can’t imagine living without! The project came in on budget within the initial timelines agreed. The owner is an outstanding lead contractor and maintained a regular communication flow so we were kept updated on status constantly. The quality of finish is superb. He has a keen eye for function and design and he provided solid guidance at every key stage. He saved us precious time by directing us to selective third party vendors and even accompanied us on shopping trips and planning meetings to ensure all involved collaborated in an effective manner, thereby keeping the pace of progress on track. When we met with any unexpected complexities/challenges he provided solid rationale for workable solutions, always upholding the integrity of the design. He is well respected within the industry, as evidenced by the strong relationships he has with a stand-up group of sub-trades. They all worked efficiently, seamlessly handing off from one to the other, back and forth - always maintaining the same high standard of work that we came to expect from Sever Homes and team. The level of after-service we received served to enhance what was overall an outstandingly positive experience from Sever Homes. We would highly recommend this team for any medium to large scale building and design projects.

After hearing a lot of horror stories about contractors who take advantage of their clients, we were skeptical about hiring any contractor to get our kitchen renovated. My brother-in-law suggested we give Josh from Level Custom Build a call, as he knew them well. It turned out to be the best decision we made. We werent sure about what we wanted; we only knew we wanted a modern functional kitchen. On our first visit with Josh, he took the time to explain all the details to us. He set our expectations for what they were able to do and what was possible. He addressed all our questions and concerns. Here is a team that is extremely skilled, very punctual, clean, pays attention to details, very patient to our numerous changes, provides excellent quality of work, respects our home and took measures to make sure not to damage anything. They take pride in what they do and not just treat you like a number. I was extremely impressed with the app they provided us. This app provides information on dates, what is scheduled when, costs, due dates and pictures everyday of what was completed. Now that to me is truly impressive as it shows how organized and committed, they are towards their clients. We love what they have done with our Kitchen and dining room. Thank you, Al, Josh, Kevin, Jamal and the rest of the team. You guys gave us our Dream Kitchen. We initially engaged Monaco looking for a designer for a major reno but decided to hire them for the whole job (design/architecture + construction) because Revi appeared knowledgeable, and it seemed like a good idea to hire one team to do it all. It started off well but was ultimately an incredibly frustrating experience. It has now been a year since completion, so weve had a chance to live in our new home and reflect. The construction began on schedule. Nine days after they began, demolition was completed, the support beam was in place, the new walls were framed out, the utilities were run, and all the initial permits were closed. At that point, we were very optimistic. The core construction team, led by Steven, was competent. As a result, a year later, there have been no structural issues. The problems started to mount when we got to the finishings. There were two major sources of problems mediocre sub-contractors, and Revis disinterest in our project and argue now, fix later attitude. It became clear that Revi had delegated our job to her assistant (without informing us prior to signing the contract) and did not feel a sense of ownership of our job. There were several large mistakes made throughout construction incorrect kitchen cabinetry, backsplash tiles, interior doors, hardware, mismatched stain on the stairs and landings, amongst others. While we were sold on a process that focused on quality assurance, we found ourselves doing the job for them, and the most frustrating part was that each time we found a mistake, there would always be an argument before it was fixed. The mismatched stairs incident is the best example of this. We pointed out from the day it was done that there was a problem with the colour to anyone who would listen. Instead of coming and seeing it with her own eyes, Revi argued with us for two weeks by email, citing the contract that said the stairs/landing may not be a perfect match to the flooring, questioning whom we informed (it was everyone), claiming that it couldnt be fixed Until she saw it with her own eyes and immediately recanted. So much stress could have been saved if she had just taken ownership of our job. It felt like she did not get to know us to the extent necessary to do a good job. For example, she had our house painted in a beautiful high end matte paint that looks great and wears terribly. This would have been a good choice for a larger home or one without children, but in our small and spirited house, it looks dirty and needs repainting a year later. Then there were the problems with sub-contractors. I had a month of stress because the electrician, to get out of 30 minutes of work, claimed that our ceiling fans could not be wired the way they had been safely wired for years prior, and Revi argued back and forth, telling us her contractor wouldnt do it because it could cause a fire .. until we got another licensed electrician to write a statement saying she was wrong. Similarly, before paying Revi an additional amount to have her painter fix water staining around our skylights, we paid her roofer to inspect to ensure there was no active leakage. He inspected three times during the reno (once for a separate issue) and found none of the glaring issues which caused leaking within months, damaging our newly finished ceilings. Since the construction ended last summer, we have reached out with several issues and most have been dealt with. However, we were not able to solve the problems caused by the aforementioned leaking due to repeated incompetence by their roofing contractor. In trying to get her to remedy this, she once again cited the contract without understanding the situation, and then finally offered to fix it, but in her offer included an insane ChatGPT generated agreement that sounds like a fake lawyer wrote it, that says she will fix it if we promise not to reflect upon our experience publicly. And because my silence is worth more than some ceiling repairs and paint, we are here today telling you we would not hire her again.

We worked with Jim of JB Contracting this summer to have the two story porch on our century home rebuilt. We had been trying to get someone to rebuild this porch for two years, but didn't find the right fit until JB Contracting. Jim is a master of his craft and meticulous in everything he does; he wow'd us with his knowledge of the correct architectural styling as well as his own design ideas to really make the front of our house shine. He took our rotted out porch from giving 1970s frat house vibes to a stunning, handcrafted statement piece in the appropriate second empire / craftsmen style. Jim and the crew (Joey, Alex, and Alberto) worked tirelessly on this project and were beyond respectful of the fact that we had a newborn baby sleeping throughout the day right where they were working. They made sure to check in every day to see how we were feeling with the project. Jim's communication is clear, thoughtful, and we'd work with them again any day!

We are very pleased with Victor's work and highly recommend him. Our original 1870s staircase was separating from the wall, creating instability and lots of creaking. We had delayed dealing with the situation because we were pretty sure that the fix would be time-consuming, messy and expensive. We are thrilled that Victor proved us wrong on all counts! His experience and great carpentry expertise enabled him to tackle only the risers and treads that were causing problems-- without having to do a major teardown of the under-stair area. Not only is Victor very skillful and honest-- he also takes great pride in his work and enjoys creative problem solving. We are so happy that he responded to our HomeStars request!

Boris and his crew arrived on site everyday (even on a Saturday) to complete the job on time. The crew was professional and cleaned up daily. Gabe, was on time and on budget. He set out clear expectations of the project and delivered on each of them in a timely manor. He does most of the work himself, so he never lost days waiting for others to be able to make it. He stressed the details right down to the last minute of the project. But the best part of the reno was his system for removing garbage daily so we never had a big mess to deal with. The entire job site was clean and organized.
