Lawn Mowing Frequencies: Does Frequency Affect the Price?
Understanding how frequently you mow your lawn can significantly influence the total cost of lawn care services. Consistent maintenance, such as weekly mowing, typically keeps costs lower per visit, as the lawn requires less extensive work compared to bi-weekly or one-time services. Adjusting the frequency to your lawn's growth rate and specific needs ensures you keep your lawn looking its best without overspending.
- Weekly Schedule: Regular weekly mowing is a cost-effective strategy. It maintains your lawn's health and appearance, typically priced between $25 – $55 per visit.
- Bi-weekly Schedule: Opting for a bi-weekly schedule can incur higher costs per visit—around $50 – $80, due to increased labour and time spent on more extensive growth.
- One-time Service: For special occasions or neglected lawns, a one-time service will cost significantly more, usually $65 – $100+ per visit, reflecting the additional work required.
HomeStars Tip: Opt for a regular lawn mowing schedule that aligns with your lawn's growth pattern. This approach not only keeps costs manageable but also ensures a neat and healthy lawn throughout the season.

Hidden Costs in Lawn Care: What to Watch Out For
When hiring lawn care services, it is important to understand that costs may not always be transparent. Some services might include hidden fees that could inflate your bill unexpectedly.
- Fuel Surcharges: Companies might add extra fees to cover the rising costs of fuel, especially if they need to travel long distances to reach your property.
- Equipment Fees: Some providers charge for the usage or maintenance of specialised tools required for specific tasks, such as aeration or edging.
- Disposal Fees: If your service involves removing large amounts of grass clippings or other debris, you might incur disposal fees.
- Additional Labour: Unexpected complexities, like obstacles in your yard or unusually thick grass, might require additional labour time, leading to higher costs.
- Emergency Services: Opting for rushed or emergency lawn care services often involves premiums for immediate attention.
HomeStars Tip: Always ask for a detailed quote before work begins to avoid surprises and better understand potential hidden fees.

FAQ: Common Questions Readers Ask About Hiring Lawn Cutting Services
What should I consider when hiring a professional lawn cutting service?
When hiring a professional lawn cutting service, consider the following factors to ensure you receive the best possible service:
1. Reputation and Reviews: Look for companies with positive reviews and robust reputations. Websites like the Better Business Bureau can provide insights into customer satisfaction and company reliability.
2. Insurance and Licensing: Ensure the business is properly licensed and insured. This protects you from liability in case of accidents or damages while they are working on your property.
3. Services Offered: Some services provide just basic lawn mowing, while others offer additional services like fertilisation and pest control. Clarify what services are included and what additional services might cost.
4. Pricing Structure: Pricing can vary based on lawn size, complexity, and frequency of service. Ask for written estimates and compare multiple quotes.
5. Contracts and Terms: Carefully review any contracts. Understand the cancellation policy, service frequency, and payment schedules. Some services offer seasonal or year-long contracts for convenience and savings.
How do seasonal changes affect mowing costs?
Seasonal changes significantly impact mowing costs due to variations in grass growth rates and maintenance needs. During spring and early summer, grass generally grows faster, requiring more frequent mowing. This might increase costs if priced per visit or if additional services like fertilisation are needed. In fall, while growth slows, additional services such as leaf collection and preparation for winter could impact pricing. Costs might decrease in late summer and fall due to less frequent mowing needs, depending on the lawn care plan you choose.
Is there a significant difference in cost between DIY lawn mowing and hiring a professional?
DIY mowing primarily involves the initial cost of purchasing a lawn mower and fuel, along with maintenance and storage costs. In contrast, hiring a professional service includes labour costs and potentially more advanced equipment. While professional services may offer convenience and add-ons like fertilisation or pest control, going DIY could save money if you're willing to invest time and effort. However, professionals can provide expertise that might lead to better long-term lawn health.

How do I attach wooden fence panels to concrete posts without grooves?
Anonymous user 10/11/2025 - 9:55 AM
I'm trying to replace my old wire fence with wooden panels but I want to keep the existing concrete posts. Some additional info: - They don't have grooves to slot panels in. - They don't have holes at the front so I can't just drill through the wood and bolt them on - There are holes on the sides where the wire links through to the next section. - The posts are more boundary markers than proper fence posts. I can't drill new holes. So, is there a way to attach wooden panels with the current setup? What should I look for in a wooden panel to make this work? What kind of screws or bolts would I need? Could I attach something horizontally and then fix the wooden panels to that instead? Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated!

The fence in my backyard started leaning inwards, looks like some posts are rotten, is there a way to re-inforce them with some metal poles to straigten the fence as a temporary solution?
