Handyman vs Specialised Contractor: Cost Comparisons
In Vancouver, deciding between a handyman and a specialised contractor largely depends on the task’s complexity, scope, and your budget. Here’s a breakdown of their differences:
Handymen: Ideal for smaller to medium tasks like faucet tightening ($60–$150) or outlet replacement ($70–$200). They’re more affordable for basic repairs but may not have the tools or expertise for larger or specialized jobs.
Specialized Contractors: Best for complex projects needing specific skills and certifications, with higher rates reflecting their expertise.
They handle major renovations (e.g., kitchen remodeling, $12,000–$35,000), specialized repairs like HVAC installation ($1,800–$6,000), and advanced electrical work ($250–$600). These jobs often require permits and compliance with local codes.
Note: Consider the scope of your project. If it requires permits or involves structural changes, a licensed contractor is usually the safer option.

Handyman Licenses and Permits: Important Cost Considerations
Understanding the significance of licenses and permits is key when engaging handyman services in Vancouver. These elements can influence the overall cost of a project, as they ensure compliance with local regulations and safety standards. Not all handyman tasks require permits, but those that do, often involve complex or structural work.
Consider the following aspects regarding licenses and permits when hiring a handyman:
- Type of Work: More involved projects may necessitate permits, adding to costs. For instance, significant electrical or plumbing jobs often require them.
- Project Location: The need for permits can vary by municipality, consequently affecting the overall expenses.
- Professional Licensing: Hiring a handyman with the appropriate licensing can provide peace of mind and ensure a standard of quality.

Treadmill glitching !
Trish 19/01/2026 - 10:05 AM
Not sure what category to put this in other than "handyman services", however, I went to lube thr running belt under my treadmill (as it hasn't been used in about 4 months), so when I went to re-tighten it , then try it, it stalls after walking for less than 15 seconds or so. I'm not sure if I'm over-tightening it or it's too loose or what not? Also, the incline is not working. What could possibly have gone wrong? Ive been trying to re-align it/centering the running belt as well as adjusting the tension, by both loosening and tightening alternatively, yet it still has the same problem. Can Anyone shed light on this?
