Garage & Loft Space - Spray Foam

Spray foam done in my garage and loft space, excellent work. Noticeable difference in the heat that the foam cuts out. Crew came in and poly'd everything that could get over spray + cleaned up - wouldn't have known they were there! Can't wait to have GNI come and do our home when we start our renovation inside! Thanks

    Attic Insulation

Salesperson (Eric) came several times to look at attic conditions, explained and made recommendations, one of which was to make drywall boxes around each pot lights (over 60). I told him this is unnecessary as all potlights have been retrofitted with IC Airtight Remodeler LEDs, approved for use in insulated ceiling in direct contact with the vapour barrier boots, installed by my electrical contractor after consultation with the City inspector. Everything went wrong when the operational workers took over. The workers cut the air barrier vapour boots, completely destroying their function. When I complained this to the Operational manager (Jason), his response is denial. He informed me he had "assumed the potlights are the older style which give off heat". Therefore Roxul insulation was placed to cover pot lights, "when there is a potential fire risk from non-LED potlights". He also stated to me "the installation of boots was pointless." After my repeated complaints and not getting a satisfactory explanation except denial from him, he arranged a meeting with me and my electrical contractor to visit my attic and to see the conditions of the vapour boots over the potlights. He cancelled the meeting unilaterally less than 24 hours before the scheduled time. Despite my repeated invitation to him to come and see the cut boots himself, he never came. I am very upset that my time, effort and money spent in installing the air and vapour boots over my new LED potlights were rendered completely useless by cutting. I can never restored the function of the cut boots. There has been a complete disconnect between the sales side and the operational side. And worse of all, in all of this, the operational manager had never visited my house and see the attic for himself!

Thank you for taking the time to write a review. ‎Although this review is not favorable to us, we always welcome the opportunity to make things right. This review is left by a private user and we can only speculate who this customer may be. Based on our internal investigative process we believe we are familiar with this situation however, we can only speculate. Great Northern Insulation takes great pride in our reputation as a company that is approachable and stands behind the products and services we deliver. At Great Northern Insulation we are committed to achieving customer service excellence and we will work hard wherever possible to satisfy your home insulation requirements and to ensure 100% customer satisfaction. Upon further investigation of this situation we found that our crew installed all materials as quoted and agreed upon. It is not part of our installation process to cut away the foam after we installed. In the picture included with this review, it is very clear that the foam was cut away after our install of polyurethane foam insulation and loose fill cellulose insulation. Our Operational Manager, Jason did inform this person that GNI is not responsible for compromising the integrity of the vapour barrier. There were issues with the pot lights after GNI installed polyurethane foam insulation and loose fill cellulose insulation. It is our understanding that this customer had someone try to repair these lights and in doing so removed the loose fill and cut away the foam resulting in the cut vapour barrier. Had the vapour barrier been compromised, our work would not have passed inspection and GNI would have been contacted earlier. GNI is not responsible for repairs or alterations made by other trade's defective work after we have installed our materials. It was offered to this customer for GNI to come back and repair the polyurethane foam insulation and loose fill insulation at a reduced cost to help alleviate some of the financial burden however we were declined. We would welcome the opportunity to discuss this matter directly. Please feel free to contact our office at 519-533-5626 if you wish to further discuss.

    Kitchen Reno

We were doing a kitchen reno and Dustin recommended spray foam insulation by Great Northern Insulation. Mike came out a did an estimate and gave us a reasonable quote. On the day of the install Kenny and Burt arrived and explained the process thoroughly. We are very happy with the end result. No more drafts, and the kitchen is quieter with the spray foam vs the pink fiberglass insulation. Thanks again to Dustin, Mike, Kenny and Burt for being timely and professional.

    R5o insulation blown into attic

We spoke to them at the home show and were told they would give us a free estimate. We contacted them and arranged a date They were prompt, polite and explained exactly what would be done, and when, and how!! We were very pleased with their work, and impressed with the way they cleaned after the job was done. I would not hesitate to recommend them!

    Basement reno

They came out the same day I called and gave a quote and they were the cheapest. On the day they came out I got more work then expected and didn't charge more for doing it.

Quick attic insulation, Easy to work with but left a mess

I had a simple top up of attic insulation. The individual who gave me a quote was friendly, professional, and thorough. There was a little bit of a mess to clean up after he went up and took a look at the attic. So there were pieces of insulation on my son's floor afterwards. The work was booked and completed within a week since it was an easy job. On the day of the work, the labourers were also friendly and attempted to be considerate. They did arrive almost an hour early so I had JUST changed and got out of the shower. Although they covered my son's room with a sheet, insulation stuck on them so there was a trail of insulation from my sons room down the hall, the stairs and out the door. It was also a rainy day so insulation that was flying from their truck must have escaped the hose or the truck but the front of my garage door was COVERED in wet insulation. Due to the rain I couldn't clean it up until later, and it had dried and became difficult to clean up. My garage door is black so it was really noticeable. I let the company know but no offer of support for all the clean up I had to do after the work. The actual work was fine but the clean up after, didn't make me 100% happy.

    Attic and Garage foam

Had basic 1970's insulation in attic and the boys showed up, on time and ready to work! They put all the attic vents in and answered all my questions. When they were finished I had R60 up there. Second crew, had a little trouble making the window I was given, for them to arrive. But being in a service providing industry I get it when your new equipment isn't working right and need to get it replaced. But they did make it down to me! Thank god I couldn't take another Vacation day. These guys came in ready to work too. They covered all of my stuff to protect it and did a fantastic Job spraying everything I wanted. Thanks Steve M

Thank you Steve for reviewing Great Northern Insulation. Sorry to hear that the second crew wasnt able to meet the window you were giving to get your insulation installed. Glade to hear that everything worked out in the end. Thanks again for choosing Great Northern Insulation.

Attic Insulation and pot lights covered

Extremely pleased with the service from GNI from start to finish. Quote and appointment were easily set up with an explanation of scope of work required. Work completed as quoted with a great crew, Bob and Brennan doing a great job. They showed up on time, were very friendly and did a nice job covering up areas of my home that could get dirty and cleaned up. When they left you would never have known they were here. Would highly recommend GNI and will use again.
