    Brick Repair

We had about 150 bricks that needed replacing and so i called the company on a Friday, David came to see what needed to be done on Monday. I then got a call from Andy Wednesday to let me know that his team will start Thursday. Rene and his co-worker came in and did a fantastic job! Perfect brick and grout match, clean work and on time. Overall it was a hassle free experience. Thanks again.

    brick work front porch

The bricks surrounding my front porch were crumbling away and the sill around my house was loose and the joints falling apart. A & A Masonry came out, assessed the damage, were very reassuring and professional. Dwight arrived on time, was very polite and professional and the work he did was spectacular. The bricks and mortar match perfectly and the sills are better than before. If I didn't know work was done here you would think the entire wall was done at the same time. Fantastic job and I would recommend A & A masonry and Dwight to anyone needing masonry work. Chris Whitby Ontario

    Masonry Repair

There were a few cracks in the foundation of my garage, and the bricks at the back corner of the garage were starting to fall away from the wall. I was concerned that my foundation was sinking. After calling several companies, I contacted A&A Masonry and someone came out to view the problem within a week. They assessed the damage and reassured me that the foundation was not sinking, stating that there would have been more structural damage. So what I thought was going to be a major repair turned out to be relatively minor. Workers came within a week and patched the cracks and repaired the brick work. It was all done efficiently and cleanly. I was extremely pleased with the customer service and support.

Front steps repair - reset flagstone on front steps, tuck-point cracked mortar, replace broken/cracked stone, fix railing connections

A&A did a fantastic job - timely service and excellent attention to detail in fixing my front steps. Dwight worked throughout the day and made all necessary fixes, working longer than originally expected with great attention to detail to get the job done perfectly. I would not hesitate to hire A&A for any future jobs.

    Brick repair and parging

It was wonderful working with A&A Masonry. Joe was very quick to respond and Andy scheduled the work immediately. René repaired missing brick and parged the exterior of our house. He also touched up interior brick. All the work was done extremely professionally and looks great. Would highly recommend A&A Masonry and hire again in the future.

    Parging

A&A Masonry is easily one of the best trades that I've had to work with. From the quick response and quote from Joe, he was able to get Dwight to work on the parging for my house the very next day. Dwight did a flawless job; he was polite, knowledgable and really took pride in his work. I honestly couldn't be any happier with the end result. I can't recommend A&A Masonry enough. Thanks, Joe & Dwight!

    Chimney Rebuild

Addendum - June 12, 2017 Andy called me after this review and he made good on the promise that should not have been made. I am very pleased about this company's ethics and its decision to stand behind the promise. A company which paints bricks came by today and made the bricks and tuckpointing match the rest of the old chimney. Awesome job and a significant improvement. Nothing stands out like a sore thumb anymore. This is what I was promised and this is what I got. Thank you very much Andy for making this happen. I truly appreciate your professionalism and business ethics. We need more companies like yours. Mistakes happen but fixing them is what counts. I found this company and two others on Homestars and chose to ask for an estimate because of the number of reviews that they had. I typically do not pick companies that start with an "A" or have multiple As because those companies typically only do that to come up first on the list and that causes me to worry about their veracity and abilities. I emailed them through Homestars and the salesperson called me back quickly and, if I recall, came the same day to give me an estimate - good responsiveness. I decided to go with this company because the salesperson assured me that the mortar would be tinted to match the old mortar on the rest of the bricks and that I, therefore, would hardly notice that the top of the chimney had been rebuilt. He went on to explain that the masons are very adept at aging the mortar to avoid the "stand out like a sore thumb" effect that is prevalent with most rebuilds. Under the pressure, and not having been able to get two other estimates quickly, I chose A & A. The manager called me and set up the job within a day or two. I had them re-point and replace some bricks on the front stoop which was looking pretty shabby and was an eyesore. Another job was to fix the mess that I had made while trying to fill in a small crack on the side of the house. Brian did a good job of fixing all that up but the mortal was not aged for this either. However, considering the original look, the stoop and the side of the house are greatly improved. James worked tirelessly all day to rebuild the top of the chimney and did a very good, conscientious job. The reasons for the 8/10 are as follows: 1. The salesperson promised something that was not delivered - aged mortar to fit in with the old mortar. He was also pushing hard to get me to sign a contract - walked onto my property with a contract in hand before we had even met! He kept saying that I would 100% give them a 10/10 on Homestars and to be sure to write a review so here it is. 2. As I was watching the mortar mixing, I did not see any kind of aging happening so I asked the mixer about it. I described what the salesperson had said and he said they do it by mixing in sand. Didn't quite fit what I was told but I thought I would wait and see. I asked Brian twice about the finished look. He assured me that it would not stand out like a sore thumb. When the mortar was wet, it looked good but once it dried, it was vastly different from the old mortar. I have enclosed a picture of the finished product about one month after it was done. Looks like brand-spanking, new mortar to me and it stands out just as much as the one across the street - the one that I was assured it would not look like. The work that was done was good work but A & A should concentrate more on the work and customer satisfaction and less on promises and Homestar reviews. If customers are happy with the work and were not mislead, they will automatically recommend the company and may even write a 10/10 review without being pressured into it.

    Exterior brick Fireplace repair

Joe came out to provide an estimate and found that the bricks around the fireplace were no longer made. Premier size bricks are about 20 years old and brick manufacturers now make larger bricks. To use larger bricks and cut them to size would have doubled the cost of the project. Luckily Joe was able to use his resources to find the correct brick size from probably the only place in Ontario that had them available. He also had the foresight to recommend a coping stone on top of the brickwork to prevent future damage. The value Joe provided by taking the time to find the correct brick size (I tried calling a few places no one had the right size) and the coping stone to prevent future issues made me realize how good these guys are. I can see why they are rated so high on HomeStars. Next Dwight showed up on time and prepared. It was obvious that he really knew what he was doing as the coping stone was about 600 lbs and had to be lifted about 8 feet to rest on top of the fireplace. Not an easy task. I honestly thought it couldn't be done. However Dwight and his team creatively came up with a solution and managed to lift the 600 lb coping stone up 8 feet and rest it into place without an issue. I was truly impressed. I'm very happy with the work they did and I'm confident that the water damage issue we had will not return. Afterwards I was talking to a friend that has experience with brickwork and he mentioned that he thought the job normally should have cost at least 50% more (assuming we had the correct brick size). I would highly recommend A&A Masonry to anyone looking to have the work done the right way the first time.
