Be Wary
Be Wary of Echotech
- we did our research and chose Echotech to replace our large 8' by 10' , paladium window.
- we had it written into the contract that our blinds would be removed and reinstalled by the installers.
The windows were installed in the Fall of 2020. There were problems.
1. The window frame was the wrong colour. We didn't notice until we went outside to look, shortly after installation.
2. Less seriously, the workers were a tad sloppy egs. Ladder marks on our walls, scraps left behind, plants crushed under foot outside.
- difficulty began with trying to get number one resolved. We wanted a factory painted window frame of the colour we chose. Echotech wanted to come and paint the one they mistakenly installed
- our research suggested that factory processed was superior
- we used the Ministry of Consumer Affairs to get this resolved
- we were prepared to go to small claims court if necessary
- it took a number of emails and phone calls to convince Echotech to replace the window. We would not be cowed by their "sorry that's our policy" attitude.
When the new window was installed they removed and reinstalled the blinds.
Latest Problem
After a few months the blinds do not work properly because Echotech did not take into consideration contraction and expansion of their frame in the spring. So the blinds scrape against the frame and have to be manually nudged every time we use them. Never happened previously with builder's grade frame.
Their response to this when we asked for a fix was that they didn't have to as per article 3 on the back of the contract.
We are choosing not to pursue this further but we are reminded of our displeasure every time we raise and lower our blinds.
