Why is water from my kitchen sink draining into the laundry machine and the other way around?
Anonymous user 30/03/2026 - 9:14 AM
The water in my kitchen sink drains really slowly and a couple of weeks ago it even backed up into the washing machine. I had a plumber check it out and he said it was due to grease and food buildup. It's been a week and I'm still having the same problem. Any tips on how to stop this from happening again?

Sounds like your plumbing stack has a blockage, depending on the age of the home I recommended getting it cleared out every 10 or so years. The plumber should have checked the main stack, grease and food slowly build up and can back up over time.

They connect to the same drainage line and that drainage line has a partial blockage. This needs to be addressed promptly to avoid flooding.

You definitely have a blockage down stream from your washer. You should have the main drain line snaked to the road. This will clear the line from your house to the city sewer. To avoid further issues don’t put any food or grease down the drain
