Why does my plumbing make a loud foghorn sound when I use hot water?
Anonymous user 15/10/2025 - 2:46 PM
Whenever we run the hot water tap for a while, like when filling the bathtub, we hear a loud foghorn-like noise. We manage to stop it by turning on the cold water tap in the bathtub and the sink. I've tried adjusting the pressure at the main valve but that didn't help at all. The only consistent solution seems to be turning on other cold water taps until the hot water tank fills up again. This is really not an ideal solution. Does anyone have any suggestions?

You likely need hammer arresters installed on the taps to prevent pipe vibration.
