10 year extended warranty for labour

Ramona Pannewitz 25/11/2025 - 9:31 AM

Is it worth it to get this extended warranty on a new furnace installation? Is there a deductible?

The answer to that question lies in the ethics and honesty of the company providing the warranty. Most people promise it, but do not explain the parameters of it; therefore, it’s a scam. There is always a cost for a yearly labour extension. The average fee is approximately $500 per year, which is why most people charge you monthly, so it doesn’t feel so expensive. In our case, at Convertible Heating, we have a flat fee of $69 per year, which gets you unlimited labour coverage. There is no deductible, and there are no limitations on the type of coverage; we cover everything. If somebody is saying a product has 10-year parts and labour and then they don’t talk anymore or explain anything further, then you are not getting 10-year labour, and the only reason you would get 10-year parts is if the manufacturer actually offers that on their product.

For some units — like Goodman, Daikin, Amana — as long as you do maintenance every year, warranty is okay. But don’t forget you need to do a tune-up, and that is not covered for extended labour warranty. Parts is regular warranty. If registered in 60 days, parts are covered; if not, parts are manufacturer's 5-year warranty.
