Humidifier + Thermostat
Norman Dewar 10/02/2026 - 1:26 PM
I want to replace my bypass humidifier and thermostat with something that performs better, and has an outdoor connect for automatic control. My house it 2000 square feet. Do you have any recommendations for the products to use?
Are you a pro and able to answer this question?

Since you want to upgrade from a bypass, a 'fan-powered' humidifier is a great middle ground. It forces moisture into the air even when the furnace isn't on a high heat cycle. Pair it with a smart thermostat like an Ecobee or Honeywell Prestige; they use outdoor weather data via Wi-Fi to adjust your indoor humidity automatically without needing to drill holes for a physical outdoor sensor.

No problem. Best way to increace you Humidity, put steam humidifier with automatic control interlocking with your furnace blower. Humidity going up without heating run, just set up on 40 % and blower for the furnace kick in whatever need humidity. Tuning on low cfm, but if you have an older furnace, recommend changing to a newer model.

Good afternoon Norman,
There are a couple of manufacturers that have an automatic control with the along with a thermostat that would be able to help with the control of not only your comfort with the air temperature but also the humidity within your home.
The current equipment in your home will be a large factor along with if you have finished areas around your mechanical room, as wire do need to go out to an external sensor (which would help keep things more accurate) and or install a fully wireless system that can manage that also.
You can contact us to discuss.
Thanks

Your best option would be a fan-assisted whole-home humidifier with automatic control and an outdoor temperature sensor.
These units perform better than bypass humidifiers because they actively push air across the water panel instead of relying on furnace airflow. They also maintain more consistent humidity, especially in larger homes like a 2,000 sq ft house.
Automatic controls with outdoor sensors adjust humidity based on outdoor temperature, which helps prevent window condensation and over-humidification. Many systems are installed with a digital control on the return and an outdoor sensor for automatic operation.
