Treadmill glitching !

Trish 19/01/2026 - 10:05 AM

Not sure what category to put this in other than "handyman services", however, I went to lube thr running belt under my treadmill (as it hasn't been used in about 4 months), so when I went to re-tighten it , then try it, it stalls after walking for less than 15 seconds or so. I'm not sure if I'm over-tightening it or it's too loose or what not? Also, the incline is not working. What could possibly have gone wrong? Ive been trying to re-align it/centering the running belt as well as adjusting the tension, by both loosening and tightening alternatively, yet it still has the same problem. Can Anyone shed light on this?

Are you a pro and able to answer this question?

You likely did two things wrong at the same time, and they’re feeding each other. Core problem: 1. You overtightened the running belt. Stalls after ~10–15 seconds once you step on it. Motor strains, then shuts down or bogs. Incline suddenly “not working.” Why this happens? Over-tight belt = excessive friction. Motor draws too much current Controller board senses overload and cuts power. Incline stops working because the controller is protecting itself. This is not coincidence. The incline and drive motor share the control board. Why “tight vs loose” is confusing you... Most people tighten belts way too much because they’re afraid of slipping. A treadmill belt should be just tight enough not to slip under foot strike. Any tighter and you’re cooking the motor and controller. If you tightened until it “felt solid,” you went too far. 2. You probably didn’t lube evenly. Another compounding issue. If the lube is: Too concentrated in one area Or not spread edge-to-edge You get uneven drag, which: Pulls the belt off-center. Forces you to keep adjusting tension. Makes things worse every adjustment cycle. What you should do... Step 1: Back the tension off Loosen BOTH rear roller bolts Start with ¼ turn counter-clockwise on each side Do this twice (½ turn total) Do NOT worry about slipping yet. Step 2: Test unloaded Power on Run at 2–3 mph Watch if it runs smoothly for 2+ minutes If it stalls with no one on it → you’ve got a bigger issue (motor or controller). Step 3: Test under load Step on Walk normally If it slips → tighten ⅛ turn per side Test again Repeat until: No slipping No stalling Anything beyond that = overtight. Step 4: Reset the controller Unplug treadmill for 10 minutes Plug back in Test incline before walking on it If incline works now → you confirmed overload was the cause. I hope this helps.
