This all depends on your jurisdictions bylaws. Typically a fence is 6’ in height.

Backyard fences You can usually go up to about 2.0 metres (around 6.5 feet). This is the standard for privacy fences and is widely accepted. Front yard fences Typically limited to about 1.2 metres (around 4 feet). The idea is to keep visibility open for safety and neighborhood appearance. Corner lots or near driveways There are stricter visibility rules. Even a lower fence may need to be reduced in height near intersections so drivers can see clearly. Pool fences If you’re enclosing a pool, the fence must meet specific safety requirements (often around 1.2 to 1.5 metres minimum with self-closing gates). Important reality check Even if a height is “allowed,” placement, style, and proximity to property lines can still affect approval. Before you build It’s always smart to check the local by-law or confirm with the City of Oshawa. A quick confirmation now can save you from tearing down a finished fence later. If you want, tell me where on your property you’re planning the fence front side backyard or corner and I can give you a more precise answer.

Check your local bylaw, but typically 6' inside your yours, 4' in the front yard, and up to 8' against public spaces like parks
