Can I use integrated appliances as freestanding temporarily?

Anonymous user 31/10/2025 - 9:18 AM

I just bought a home and plan to renovate the kitchen in a year. In the meantime, can I use integrated appliances (dishwasher, washer, fridge) as freestanding until the new kitchen is installed? The dishwasher and washer would go under the counter but without cabinet doors, and the fridge would sit in an open tall space where the previous owners had one. I was thinking of using a fridge stand for stability and ventilation. Is this setup okay short term? Is there anything I should watch out for?

Yes, you can use integrated appliances as freestanding for a short time, but there are a few things to keep in mind. Make sure there’s enough ventilation around each appliance — especially the fridge, which needs airflow at the back and sides. Check that the dishwasher and washer are stable and level to avoid movement or leaks. Also, be careful with exposed edges or connections, since integrated models are designed to be built into cabinets for extra support. Using a fridge stand is a good idea for stability and better air circulation. Overall, it’s fine as a temporary setup — just follow the manufacturer’s instructions and check that power and water connections are safe.

Yes, you can safely use integrated appliances as freestanding units in the short term, provided they’re installed correctly and have adequate ventilation. Dishwashers and washers can operate under a counter without cabinet doors, but make sure they’re level and properly secured to prevent movement or vibration. The fridge can also sit in an open space as long as there’s sufficient airflow around it—using a stand is a good idea for stability and to improve ventilation. Just keep in mind that integrated models are designed to be enclosed, so they may look unfinished and run slightly warmer or louder when exposed. Avoid pushing them too tightly against walls, and ensure all electrical and plumbing connections are accessible and secure.
