I am forever grateful that Sam from Amista Homes reached out when I initially submitted a service request at Homestar. Four years ago, I bought a bungalow with plans to convert it into a two-story home, moving my parents to the main floor and my kids and myself to the second. After struggling with my previous contractor for three years and getting nowhere, Sam stepped in last September, and now my home is 90% complete! Ive officially moved into the second floor, and the entire process has been smooth, fast, and truly amazing thanks to Sam and his team. Together, we handled everything from designing and permits to Committee of Adjustment approval, framing, stone and stucco, electrical, HVAC, plumbing, flooring, and tiling. The result is a 3,300 sq ft duplex, where the main floor features a large open-concept kitchen, living room, and dining area with two bedrooms and a fully accessible bathroom with a powder room customized for my parents. The second floor is designed for my family with an open-concept kitchen, living room, and three bedrooms plus a den with three full bathrooms. The two master bedrooms have walk-in closets and ensuite bathrooms. I ended up getting everything I wanted and more. While the neighbors were initially unhappy, Sam handled everything professionally and made sure they understood the situation. The timing of the work was perfect for each team, and Sam remained very involved every step of the way. He worked closely with me while ensuring we stayed within a very tight budget. Were nearing the finish line of the original plan, and I couldnt be happier. I now have my dream home within budget. Thank you, Sam youve truly been a lifesaver! From framing, drywall and paint, bathroom and kitchen renos, to electrical and plumbing, flooring and cabinets, I have had my hands on all of it over the years. Before starting my business in manufacturing, I was in charge of maintenance for an apartment complex near downtown Calgary, overseeing 192 units and their respective buildings. Through this career in housing, I have accumulated a very broad knowledge base about many different trades and professions related to home building and maintenance. He is a contractor that brought in workers to complete the work. We met on the first day, and agreed to set work hours (8 to 5) The hours were not met on any of the days. There were days that they showed up as late as 12:30 and would want to work to 7pm. There was a total disrespect of our home, by not covering floor or counters during demolition (until we asked), placing work tools (hammers/pry bars) in our bathroom sink causing damage, leaving patio door open during a rain storm resulting in puddles on our dining room floor, always leaving front door open after repeatedly being asked to keep it closed, used wooden retaining wall as a work bench for soldering pipe which resulted in scorch marks, not securing garbage. There was poor communication between the contractor and us during the renovation. With that being said, the contractor did try and rectify some of the issues that we had.
