I have been at it since 2017 and through the years have done small additions, full bathroom renos, tiling and some masonry. I install a lot of trim and baseboard and flooring. I do a lot of kitchen backsplash as well. I have done quite a range of work but I have been pushing to do more specialized projects such as Composite decking with Aluminum Rail. Another area I am focusing on is the installation of accent walls with tile, shiplap or wood..whatever you need. We are a hands on renovation contractor with over 39 years experience providing homeowners with high quality renovations and top quality service.
After paying for a brand new kitchen to be installed at our house, my wife and I were excited to be nearing the end of a month-long renovation project. One of the last things for us to do was to plug in our shiny new range hood fan into the custom hood cover that been designed for it. Unfortunately we quickly discovered that the kitchen cabinet company had not considered the height of the fan unit properly, meaning that our pre-existing duct vent hole was now approximately 8-10 inches too low for us to be able to install the new fan! What made the situation even worse was that we had just installed a quartz backsplash and I was worried that the vibrations from drilling a new duct hole would end up cracking the new backsplash. I posted a request for help on HomeStars and received a response from Luca at MGC Contracting within a few minutes. I explained the situation and said that even though I knew this was a relatively small job, it was something that would be required to save my marriage after living without a functional kitchen for over a month! Luca made time to come over the next day and take a look at the space in person so that we could discuss potential options. We ended up agreeing to move forward with cutting a new hole, as he promised that he could do it without risking any damage to the backsplash. He explained that he was already busy on another project but he made an exception and offered up some of his personal time so that we could get our kitchen up and running as soon as possible. Luca arrived on time on the day we had agreed to, and performed all the work efficiently and neatly. He and his crew member were very considerate and careful, and even went out of their way to make sure that the patch job they did to brick up our old duct hole was done in a way that you can barely see where they did their work. At the end of the day, I paid him what wed already agreed in advance with no hesitation as he had done a terrific job. Overall, I had a great experience working with Luca and his team and would highly recommend him to anyone looking for a trustworthy general contractor for any work around the house. Ive already let him know to expect a call soon for some retiling work that we have been putting off because we didnt have a good contractor to work with before. My first interaction with Andre was very positive, he seemed very knowledgeable and asked questions about the age and history of the home. He also said he only did one project at a time, and didn't start the next one until the previous was complete to our satisfaction. This feeling did not last very long once we had paid the deposit for the renovation. The original scheduled start date was in November. In October we received an email that it was delayed until February. Actual work didn't start until mid March. We agreed at the start of the project that if he needed to stay late if he was going to waste material (like grout or cement). What happened instead was he showed up most days between 10am-1pm and stayed 6-10 hours. Halfway through the project I clarified that I only wanted him in the house between 9-6 and the extra leeway was only for special circumstances. He came on time one day and returned to arriving between 10-1 after that. When demolition started, we was surprised that the walls of the 1930's home were not drywall, and had not heard of rocklathe that the walls were actually made of. He was also surprised the tub was made of cast iron. Both of which he charged more for above the quote price and added 1 week on the 2 week project. Once the bathroom was almost done, I had messaged him to confirm I was able to use the tub which he had tested. Once it drained, I noticed the ceiling below the tub was leaking, the original pipe was held together with epoxy and had come loose from the renovation. Another added cost, and I had to replace my own ceiling, he wanted to charge more and he was behind on the next job. He also moved the bathroom light switch to inside the bathroom, which was also not tested (it turned off all lights upstairs). The light switch move was a line item in the quote and paid for, but when I told him about it he would not entertain fixing the issue. In the end I will need to change this myself, even through I have paid for it and is a line item on the "add-on" quote. Other short nitpicks: - He did not install a shower curtain rod (not specifically called out in the job, but I had assumed that would be included) - Tiles not all flush with the wall, some sticking out - Did not get the tub we wanted, apparently it was out of stock on back order (we paid him the deposit 1 year before the work started) - Shower head was not installed well, o-ring was crushed and was leaking. Luckily I was going to replace with a different head so it was an easy fix The frustrating part is the bathroom itself is well done. If the Andrei and Jessica had just given an accurate quote from the beginning and did the work they said they would it would be a 9-10 star review. They are both very personable and very good hard working people. In the end, I would have been better off with a different company who quoted higher but had explicitly called out the complexity of working on an older home and likely wouldn't have had the surprise cost.

The whole team was professional and maintained communication from start to finish of the project. We had flood damage requiring replacement of drywall, taping, repainting. The flooring and stairs were also replaced as well as the doors and trim. Options were provided throughout to match budget and design choices and the final product matched what was promised. In the end we are very happy with all the work and thankful for the transparency and help along the way.
