Review from HomeOwner Review left on 26 Oct 2008Rating: 5 out of 5First off all, I want to say thanks to New Canadian Drain & Plumbing for such a fast and high professional service. I really like the work they did on my property. Before the long weekend and I was finishing my laundry and notice that something went wrong. I filed a strong smell in my basement and water start fluting. I was totally lost, so I start searching in internet and calling to all this famous and well known companies, but nobody showed up except New Canadian. Technician did estimate on my drain with special equipment, I was asking about all the things what needs to be done guy`s explain everything on very high professional level , give me an idea about the job price it was very reasonable quote so we sign up contract. Next morning crew come and start to do the work outside. They dig out the hole, pull off drain(full of tree roots), install a new part and fill up the hole. Friendly speaking I think that is so massy job that I was really spruced that they did it so clean that anything else left, except a small hole. NO dirt, NO garbage, really clean and well done job.Review from HomeOwner HomeOwner

My friend clogged my toilet, so I called them up and they were here within 30 minutes. It took less than 15 minutes for them to get it working properly again, it's working perfectly now. I couldn't ask for anything more.Review from HomeOwner HomeOwner

My 11 year old son decided to experiment with the toilet and see what it was capable of. Needless to say, to this moment my husband and I no idea what he attemted to flush. We contacted New Canadian Drain and Plumbing, Which was highly recommended to us by a friend of the Family. Well let me tell you, This was probably the best referal I've ever had. A plumber arrived within 1/2hr, he was the most polite and professional servicemen I've met in years. He tried every thing he possibly could to unplug the toilet. After about 40min we both came to the conclusion that we needed a new toilet. He went to pick up a toilet for us, installed it and cleaned up all the mess the little one had created. The people at New Canadian have more then exceeded my expectations and I highly recommend them. Also the cost was very reasonable. A pleasure to deal with. Thanks Again, Melinda.Review from HomeOwner HomeOwner

Thanks so much to the crew of New Canadian Drain that came out to our rescue when my wife and I were left stranded by other plumbers. Such a quick response to our initial call made us feel important and provided the reassurance that we were dealing with professionals. Steve Martel was out in no time to provide advice, options and a quotation, and answered the many questions we had about our project. Steve reassured us that he'd be sending a top quality representative to complete our project, and that he did. Vladimir represented New Canadian in a professional manner, arrived exactly when he said he would, took extra care to ensure that drop tarps were used to keep the work area as clean as possible and, like Steve, answered any questions we had with patience and willingness. It was admirable watching him work with such care, he truly is a master at his trade. Our whole project, which we thought would take weeks, was completed in 3 days!! WOW Thanks again New Canadian DrainReview from HomeOwner HomeOwner
Review left on 16 Oct 2008Rating: 5 out of 5fixed my sewer backup problem due to tree roots in old clay pipes
New Canadian Drain and Plumbing exceeded my expectations in totally replacing our root-filled clay pipes that had holes the size of watermelons. That situation had led to a sewer backup in my basement which resulted in the entire basement being torn up. From the knowledgable marketing reps to the experienced diggers, everyone associated with this company found workable solutions and gave first-rate service. I was originally put on to them by a friend and will certainly give them a strong recommendation to anyone who is faced with a similar challenge. And for the second time in a month, I called upon them last week to install a three-prong waterproofing system because of a secondary flood due to a leaking foundation. Once again, they went above and beyond.Review from HomeOwner HomeOwner

New Canadian Drain and Pluming Ltd. previously installed my toilet (did a great job). Some time after I noticed some water on my insulation in my basement. Thinking it was a leak, I called another company (thinking New Canadian didn't do basements) for a inspection. They came (will remain nameless) and advised it was a "huge job" and gave me an ridiclously high quote. I couldn't beleive it, so by chance I called New Canadian to see if they could perhaps do anything, or refer me somewhere. They actually told me they do indeed do to this type of basement work. They arrived the next day, and told me there was no leak at all, but mearly condensation!! They actually took down a portion of my insulation, ran the hose outside against the foundation for quite a while, and remained there for quite a while after just to ensure there was no leak. Then, and to this date there has been no leak!!Review from HomeOwner HomeOwner
Review left on 14 Oct 2008Rating: 1 out of 5Replacement of laundry sink
We advise the following: When these fellows bid on a job for you, get an estimate from them of the number of hours that they will require for the work, and ask for an estimate of the materials cost. Then do the math, and see what the hourly rate for the work comes to. The following is our side of the story. In our case, the estimate provided was $1500 for the removal of a concrete laundry sink, installation of a new plastic sink (for which we paid), and replacement of taps and drains. My wife agreed to this estimate under some time pressure--the old tap had started leaking in a stream, and the sink had been cracked and leaking for some time, I was out of town. She allowed work to commence, believing the verbal estimate to be just that--an estimate. The plumber was four hours late on the second day, which is when he finally coughed up the written estimate--which appeared in the form of an invoice, such that after the fact, he could claim that she had signed off on the work. Neither payment terms nor arrival time and finish time appeared on the invoice. At that point, my wife felt under great pressure to sign, not understanding the scope of the work to be done, but with errands to run in the two business hours left in the day, a child to pick up at day care, and a long Thanksgiving weekend ahead without laundry facilities. She returned four hours later; the plumber was still working. He left as she was putting the kids to bed. She did not sign off on the work. The plumber had removed the old sink to this extent: he had taken it outside and piled it beside the front porch, with jagged metal protruding from it in an unsafe manner. On Thanksgiving Monday, the plumber called to say that he had lost the Visa information. We noted that the old sink had not been taken away--just piled up at the side of the house. We called into question both the completion of the work and the astonishing price, considering the time spent--seven hours of work with perhaps $200 of materials (and probably significantly less)--$185 per hour. Note that a unionized plumber in Ontario, as of 2004, made $43.50 per hour; journeymen earn, on average $30, according to payscale.com. Considering the cost of doing business--office, equipment, and fleet expenses, I would happily pay $100 per hour. Other Web resources suggest that, for an emergency call, $100 for the first hour and $75 for each subsequent hour is reasonable. I can infer that if the plumber had not lost the Visa information, we would have seen nothing of him and would have been on the hook for disposing of the concrete. The missing Visa information was evidently a problem sufficient for him to return to the house, put the debris into his van, and then ask again for payment in full. We declined, saying that we would take the matter up with the company. However, any attempt to negotiate with the company on the price was met with intimidation and coercion: "We must receive payment today or it is going to collection agency and will destroy your credit". This on the first business day after work had been done. This matter will go to the Better Business Bureau, and possibly to small claims court. It appears to us that the company is in violation of several aspects of the Consumer Protection Act, 2002, which says that a representation is unconscionable--and therefore illegal--when "the person making the representation or the person's employer or principal knows or ought to know...that the price grossly exceeds the price at which similar goods or services are readily available to like consumers". In addition, according to the Act, a future performance agreement (which I interpret the written estimate to be) did not include terms and methods of payment--opening us up to the coercive language in our negotiations. In terms of standing up for our rights before the work was done, we may not have done sufficient homework. (We did check HomeStars, which to our surprise had nothing but glowing ratings. Until now.) Oh--and a note to anyone reading this from New Canadians--this is just the start, folks.Answer from pro:
Regarding a customer review: Micheal in Corso Italia Oct 14, 2008 Upon our technician’s arrival, the customer had already been educated in all the terms and specifics about the job he needed done. Our plumber arrived and gave the customer a price of $1500.00+gst to have this work done. The customer agreed immediately. How this customer can say that they were intimidated by our plumber which is soft spoken, stands 4’10” and maybe 120 lbs, is ridiculous. New Canadian Drain and Plumbing’s fleet is equipped with GPS system that allows us to track all our vehicles travel times and dates spent on any given location. We will gladly supply you with our reports showing that we spent a total of approx 13 hours on GPS reports, on three seperate occasions. We also spent approx $200.00 on material. -1ST Occasion, Broke and removed concrete laundry tub from basement, approx 250 lbs. Exposed and prepared drain for connection. -2nd Occasion, Plumber arrived in afternoon due to previously booked job for that morning. Technician stayed on site till 10:37pm. -3rd Occasion, Technician arrived to dipose of all garbage on site from this job. Job Complete. There were no complaints about the work being done until it came time to pay. The customer offered to $1000.00, saying that this was a sufficient amount for the work done according to him. The contract had been signed for $1500.00. We informed the customer you must honour your contract of $1500.00. The customer then stated that if he pays the full amount, it will not be without complaints. As you can see from the statements and accusations in his review. As you know, here in Canada 70% of canadians work in service industries, and we have all run into these types of situations in which a price is agreed upon, the contract gets signed and when it comes time to pay clients are under the impression that the contract can be re-nagotiated. In conclusion we feel that this review is unfair and contains false accusations. This is damaging New Canadian Drain and Plumbing’s reputation. We have not had any complaints on the Better Business Bureau in 8 years. Sincerely, New Canadian Drain and Plumbing

We had a leak in our basement and we called a drain company and they quoted us a high price stating that there was a lot of work to be done. We then called New Canadian Drain and Plumbing and Igor came up with a better solution and the price was much less and work was done right away and we have not had any more problems. This company is very organized and the employees were very skilled on the job.Review from HomeOwner HomeOwner

It all started with my 2-year flushing a toy car down the toilet. Needless to say, it rendered the toilet useless. I called another company, and they had a technician out the next day. He arrived on time, with the little shoe covers, etc. He removed the toilet to get at the toy, and reset the toilet. It was pretty much downhill from there. After "fixing" the problem, he flushed the toilet once to show it was working. The flush was less powerful than before my son sent the toy down. Yes, you could argue that I should have had the toilet flushed several times with toilet paper before saying "OK", but you know what they say about hindsight... Later, that day, when we actually USED the toilet, it was apparent it was not "fixed". I called the original company back, and their response was basically "the toy was removed, we did our job - if you think there's another problem, we can send a technician out to scope your line for $250" WHAT?!?! How about "we'll send the technician back to have another look"? Obviously, I declined the offer to be relieved of another $250 [especially considering the toilet worked fine 2 days prior] I decided if I was going to spend more $$$, I'd at least try a different company, with hopes they were more ethical New Canadian sent out a plumber the next day [albeit 4 hours late]. Within 20 min of plunging, the toilet was operational again!!! I'd recommend this company over that "other one" any day. I'm reluctant to mention the "other company" for fear this review gets suppressed. However, I'm sure you can check my other reviews, etc A final word of wisdom to those who ever have ANY plumber come by to fix a toilet... Never pay and let him or her leave without having THREE flushes go down successfully, WITH a wad of toilet paper each flush.Review from HomeOwner HomeOwner
