Brick and Mortar Repair/Replacement; Tuck Pointing; Replacing Concrete Sill

Muchas Gracias to Ronaldo, Augusto and Jose, A&A Masonry's all-star Latin American crew. They were punctual, efficient, professional, industrious, and just plain nice. They did an excellent job of replacing (and matching) some badly damaged bricks on my 100+ year old house. They tuck pointed and patched where needed, and re-cemented a seriously eroded basement window sill. They were attentive to my requests, patient with my questions, polite, respectful, and never patronizing. They rendered quality work in a timely fashion, and left the property as clean as they had found it, minus some mortar dust that should be gone with the next rain. I don't have a bad thing to say about any of them or their work and would definitely hire or recommended these guys in the future.

    Parging side wall

The recent July 2013 heavy rain storms caused water seeping through the side wall and water running through the wall in the basement of my rental property. I called 3 masonry companies, only A&A Masonry returned my call within hours, and Brad came to see my problem the next day. I and Brad discussed all alternatives in solving the problem, and decided to have the problem section of the wall parge coated, and concrete mix poured around the footing of the wall due to extremely tight space for access. Brad’s attitude is to find the best technical solution at the minimum cost, so he didn’t mind spending the time in finding the best alternative. Only 2 business days later Dwight of A&A Masonry came over to do the work. Dwight seems to have a very good knowledge and experience of masonry work. He first did a very thorough cleaning on the wall, then took his time to do all necessary work to ensure that the parging will last a long time. He did not take short cut, and took pride of his work. When the work was completed, he took time to clean the work area. I am very happy to have courteous, experienced and efficient Dwight doing the work. If I need to have A&A Masonry to do some work in the future, I will definitely ask to have Dwight doing the work.

Thanks Howard! And I will definitely make sure you get Dwight next time around. --Andy

Parge (resurfacing with cement the foundation of the house

After the big rain storm in July I had some minor water leakage in the basement. Heard A&A Masonry commercial on CFRB and called to book an appointment. After a careful inspection it was decided all I needed was something called Parging. Dwight came to do the job and the foundation looks brand new. He arrived at 8am and was done by 5pm. No mess. He cleaned up before he left. I would definitely recommend A&A Masonry for all your foundation needs or crack repairs. If you're lucky they will send Dwight to do the job.

    Front entrance and steps

A&A Masonry Saved Our Front Entrance: Our front entrance walkway pad and staircase were in a mess. This was due to a previous coating of thin stamped concrete that didn’t last more than 3 years before it started to chip and flake. We had been conned a number of years back by a guy who sold us on this stamped look except it didn’t last. It was too thin a coating we found out over time. On May 24 weekend I rented a medium sized electric Power Chisel and within 4 hours had the entire pad area cleared and all the entrance area and anything that would come off the steps as well. Now our challenge was to find a new coating that could go over the bare cement areas as well as the areas of the old coating that wouldn’t come off. It was extremely important that this next coating be right and last for a long time through harsh winters and extremely hot summers at times here in Toronto. I did extensive research on the Web and found many options that sounded right; but I knew wouldn’t cover all substrates successfully for the long term. A particular process and material that did catch my eye was called “Rubaroc”. It had Canadian Authorized dealers so I contacted the one for my area here in Etobicoke; A&A Masonry. I was told someone would call me from the sales department to arrange to come over to my home to review the job required. I think it was the very same afternoon I received a phone call from a man named “Dan” and we set up a time to visit my home the next day and review the job scope. We reviewed all details of the materials, life expectancy, maintenance, repair if ever required etc. This material I realized I had seen many times around pools at hotels during my and my wife’s travels. After a couple minor adjustments to the quote I was confident we had the right process and material that would cover all our surfaces and revitalize our badly needed entrance. Another very important detail in our negotiation was that A&A Masonry didn’t want any payment whatsoever until we were happy with the final product. This showed me their utmost confidence in their product and people doing their work. It was a timing game with the weather for this product and process and our time came with a phone call and later that day the crew Matt, Paul, and a helper I’m sorry I have forgotten his name arrived. We quickly reviewed the job and let the guys go at it. They knew what they had to do and got right down to business with the layout of our highlight area around the front of the walkway pad, applying the bonding agent, and mixing up their first batch of material for application. Later that afternoon “Dan” showed up to see how things were going and touch base with the guys. The day was HOT and they motored on while my wife and I continuously checked to see if they needed anything to drink; water, pop, juices. Later we decided that they had been at the work long enough that we felt we should get them something to eat; so we got them a couple Pizzas. These guys were great! They got the job done that day right about dusk and just in time to clean up everything. No discussions about money were brought up by them at all. A couple days later we received a follow up phone call from “Dan” to arrange a time to come over and see the final product and how it all turned out. We met a day or so later and told him how beautiful it all turned out and We Couldn’t Have Picked a Better Company or Product for our application. Our entrance and front of our house has been totally changed for the better!! Thank You Very Much Darren, Dan, Matt, Paul and Helper And all at A&A Masonry John & Glenda

front step repair/replacement and repair to tuckpointing

We hired A&A last year to fix the tuck pointing in places around our bungalow, repair concrete around a basement window, and replace a few missing bricks in the garage. Also (the major job), to replace our front stone/brick steps. We waited to do this review because we wanted to see how the work fared. A&A repaired the brick/tuck pointing of the base and replaced the top and steps with concrete with a bullnose edge. One of the reasons we selected A&A (despite the fact that they were the highest quote we received) was the thoroughness of their initial inspection. Pierre was the only one to check the foundation of our steps. Bryton and his team were courteous, professional, did their best to protect our boxwood (despite the inconvenience, I'm sure), double checked with us about what we wanted along the way, were tidy, hardworking, and even sustained a wasp attack. One thing that impressed us about A&A was their accountability/guarantee of service. When we noticed a couple of spots where the tuckpointing had been missed (easy to do on a vast brick wall, I'm sure!) they returned promptly. This winter there was an issue with the surface of the concrete flaking but this spring they returned to repair the concrete. We were very pleased with their service and workmanship. We will definitely hire A&A again when it's time to repair our chimney. The A&A team are professionals that produce quality workmanship and who stand behind their guarantee.

    Tuck Pointing

We have a 50+ year old house that required tuck pointing in various areas and received great advice from A&A on what needed to be done. We are very pleased with the results. Dwight did an amazing job. A couple of weeks later and it's hard to tell where the repairs were done - they blend right in.

Thank you! We really do our best to make the repairs as invisible as possible. --Andy

    Waterproofing foundation

When we purchased a 40 year old home in Mississauga, our home inspection revealed cracks and the need for waterproofing. Through Homestars we found A&A Masonry. We were assigned a project manager, Bill, who was incredibly helpful through the process. He worked with us to prioritize the issues to fit our budget. The mason who lead our project, Dominic, was dedicated and very hard working. He took us through his work every step of the way - just reinforcing how high quality the work/materials were. Throughout they made what was a stressful situation (buying a home with foundation issues) stress-free. They are truly top-notch and worth every penny. We consider A&A our go-to for masonry and waterproofing moving forward, hands down.

    Answer from pro:

Thanks James! I'll pass this on to Bill & Dominic. I'm very happy to have these pros on our team. ---Andy

    Brick column and porch repair

Job well done by Dominic. He is very detail oriented. Before and during repair work, he kept me well informed on his approach, materials to use etc. He has done an excellent work replacing the two brick columns and laying exposed aggregate concrete walkway! He always cleaned up after everyday's work. Really appreciated! Definitely recommend A&A Masonry!

Limestone window sills, tuck pointing & parging

A&A was quick to call me to make arrangements for the work and the work was completed within 12 days after my initial call to them (and within 7 days of the agreed start date). Very impressive! Our new limestone sills which replaced brick sills are absolutely stunning and look like they are original to the house which is a testament to the fine work that was done. The tuck pointing was done so well that you can’t even tell that there were once gaps and cracks in areas where we needed significant work. This work is truly flawless! The parging makes the house look like a new house. Every bit of work done by Joe and Kyle over the 5 days they worked so hard was of the highest standard including the attention to fine details like the caulking, matching of the mortar colour to the existing mortar, and clean-up. They are two of the most professional and courteous trades people I have ever encountered. We are extremely pleased with the results of the work. The entire experience from the initial visit and quote from Dan the sales rep, to the discussion with Andy, to the work done by Joe and Kyle was so positive I would recommend that others definitely use this company!
