Our 17 year old furnace needed a new venter motor. We decided to replace the furnace given that there are so many more efficient products available than there were in the early 2000's. I'm a teacher; I tend be research oriented and patient when making buying decisions like this. Unfortunately, given the fact that our furnace wasn't generating heat and the house's temperature was between 10-14 degrees C, patience was difficult.
I had 7 salespeople from different well rated HVAC companies (5 sourced through Homestars) come and quote on this job. Chris @ Convertible stood out. Others were very knowledgeable, some were offering lower price points and yet others had the fanciest products. Chris offered me 2 choices - a more budget product and an excellent Carrier unit which seriously stretched our budget. He had excellent product knowledge, spoke passionately about why I should choose his company for our HVAC needs now and going forward, without being pushy, arrogant or "salesy". As someone who works closely with families in my own occupation, it was clear that Chris understands people.
We actually had to wait an extra day for our install (meaning that we were without heat for the better part of 5 days) than if I had chosen my second place HVAC company (a very highly rated company on Homestars). I had to talk my husband into it. I'm glad I did.
Chris, as he said he would, sent over a crew with 35+ years of HVAC experience. When you hire Convertible, my #1 piece of advice is to ask for Dave to be the man they send. He was extremely pleasant, diligent and supervised an outstanding install. He also fixed our furnace humidifier which hadn't operated in 6 years. It just needed an old part (that he so expertly had in his truck). Additionally, he assessed our 9 year old Rinnai tankless water heater (which had never been serviced) to see if a service should be done. It wasn't necessary; many companies wouldn't be so honest with their customers and lose out on a $200 service. Dave and his crew, replaced our 8" return air duct with a new 10" duct, reinstalled and operationalized our humidifier and removed all of the old furnace, filter rack, duct etc. I couldn't be happier and I could not more enthusiastically recommend an HVAC company.
One note of warning, if you do bring Chris in to quote on a job, be prepared to be charmed :)
