    Windows and Doors Installation

We were overjoyed with the service that was provided by Vadym and Yan. They did an excellent job and we are thrilled with the outcome of our windows and doors. These two men are hard workers and their work is impeccable. They focused all of their attention on the tasks at hand and went above and beyond to provide us with a beautiful outcome. We would recommend them without a doubt. Ecotech gave us the best deal out of all the companies that gave us estimates, and we are very pleased with the company and the quality of the windows and doors. The salesman Surge sold us on this company and we are very happy that he did!

    Answer from pro:

Great to hear your positive experience with us. Serge is a very straight forward guy and makes sure you get exactly what you expect. Our installation team works hard to leave you with a great impression. Thanks for your business and enjoy the windows.

New sliding door and replace 2 windows

We had a great experience meeting with the sales rep and he assured us that the reason he works for this company was because you don't pay until you are happy with the job. Needless to say we are not very happy! The day of our installation the inastaller tried to cancel citing car trouble; he later told me that e needed breakers in my mind is maintenance not a breakdown. I called the office to let them know I had taken the day off work and I was disappointed that he was trying to cancel when someone had called one week and the night prior to confirm our appointment. Unfortunately it only gets worse. The installers put the 8ft wide door into the space they just cut out of my house without building a frame to support the walls and beams they just cut. I was concerned because I had discussed building a frame with the installed and sales rep. When I true to ask about it they brushed me off. My friend who has been working as a carpenter for I've 10 years tried to explain to the installers that they had to reinforce the wall for over 2 hours before they agrees to use material I had at my house to properly install the huge door. We found out very quickly that they not only do not know how to build a frame for a new door they don't have the trim to cover up the reinforcement. We had to go buy trim (we were given a discount to cover the cost of the trim) and spend a whole day installing it because they refused to. When I asked why they don't have trim to cover the gap they would make any time they build a dram the main installed said because they don't do it like that, they just cut an opening and screw the door in. Even when it is a two story house!!! I am honestly worried about any homes that had a new opening cut. The insallers were able to install the windows in existing frames well and without issues. Except for the lack of trim (that i believe was paid for in our quote) which was due to a miscommunication between the sales rep and the installer. I spoke with the sales rep and he assured me that Mark the owner or Manager would call me so that I could share my concerns with him. I hoped that the owner who is sending his crew to other homes would say this was a fluke and he would get to the bottom of it. And perhaps even apologize for the incredibly stressful day I had begging and demonstrating to his employee how to do his job properly. Instead I have been trying to contact HIM for a month on Thursday. So instead of waiting any longer I am posting my opinion and experience. I have a number of photos but they will not upload and I keep getting kicked out so ill post the story without photos.

    Answer from pro:

Thank you for your feedback! we appreciate your honest review. unfortunately we are a window company and not a framing company. we do the job in the most professional manner with which we can accommodate for our customers needs with as little cost as possible. that being said we do take your review and honest comments into mind and hope to better ourselves from this experience for future customers.

DO NOT USE “Ecotech Windows” as they use unethical sales practices!!!

Echotech salesman D. Cummings backed dated my contract by 11 days to get around the Ontario law that give the homeowner 10 days to cancel a contract that is signed their home. Here is what happen to me so don’t let it happen to you! I had D. Cummings from Ecotech Windows come give me a quote as I wanted to replace all my windows. He arrived late and I was on my lunch break so he measured the windows as we spoke and there was no time for a demonstration. He let me know that Ecotech offered lifetime warranty on their windows. A few days later he emailed me a quote and we emailed back and forth as I was comparing quotes. I then narrowed my choice to Echotech and another company that uses Vinylbilt windows. D. Cummings had said that he use to sell Vinylbilt so I asked him to look at the quote so he could tell me where the cost difference was. D. Cummings pointed out a few differences in the quotes which was why Ecotech’s quote was higher. I asked D. Cummings to come back and demonstrate his windows for me which he did and I again asked that they had lifetime warranty which he said they did. Even though his quote was higher I was satisfied as to why it differed from the Vinylbilt quote and I wanted to go with Echotech. D. Cummings just happened to have pre-prepared the contract. I looked the contract over making sure all the windows, types, openings were correct. He asked for a 40% down payment which he calculated and I then calculated to make sure it was correct. I then signed the contract to purchase the windows from Ecotech. In Ontario if you sign a contract in your home you have up to 10 days to cancel your contract. Late that evening I was looking on the back of the contact and it said it was a limited lifetime warranty pro-rated 20 years. (Year 1 it is 0% home owner 100% Ecotech and on year 20 it is 90% homeowner and 10% Ecotech) This was different than what D. Cummings told me and on Ecotech’s website it just says “Lifetime Warranty” no explanation and nothing about limited or pro-rated to 20 years. I contacted D. Cummings about this but he had a death in the family and it took a while for him to answer he said he would speak with the owner. A few days later D. Cummings said the owner wanted to know what exactly my problem was with the warranty. I again said it’s not lifetime if it’s limited lifetime 20 years pro-rated. As I waited for my reply I contacted 2 other companies that I considered to ask about their Lifetime Warranty both said lifetime is lifetime as long as I own the home and this transfer to the next owner as well and as long as he owned it, was non-prorated and not limited to 20 years. One of the companies I contacted was the one that used Vinylbilt windows and I asked them about what D. Cummings had said about their quote which turned out to be false. I wanted triple pain in all the new windows but D. Cummings said that the basement windows were too small and that nobody could do them as triple. The Vinylbilt window company told me that was false that Echotech just didn’t have to proper equipment to do this and that they could give me triple pane in the basement windows. D. Cummings also said they quote me a picture window not a casement window which also turned out to be false. It was 8 days after signing the contract when I still hadn’t heard back from D. Cummings so before my 10 day cancelation period ran out I decided to cancel the contract. I contacted D. Cummings my email and told him I was canceling the contract and then the next day I also wrote a formal letter and faxed it to Echotech canceling the contract. This is when I noticed the date on the contract was not the day I signed but was backdated 11 days. It was actually back dated to the day before I received my quote by email. How could I sign a contract before I even received the quote? Shortly after I sent the fax I received a phone call from Mark the owner. He said that I couldn’t cancel the contract because I was past my 10 day cancelation period. I explained the date on the contract was incorrect and his salesman had purposely back dated the contract. Mark said he would match the other company’s lifetime non-prorated warranty. At this point with them not being upfront about their warranty, D. Cummings telling me incorrect information about Vinylbilt and then back dating the contract to get around the 10 day cancelation law I had lost all trust in Ecotech. How could I now trust them and let them into my home to install windows. How could I trust them that the windows had the proper films and that the proper gases were between the panes when they had been dishonest with me and back dated the contract!!! Mark the owner said I only had 2 choices, proceed or forfeit the down payment. I kept explaining that his salesman backdated the contract and I just wanted my down payment back but he would not listen. I contacted a contracts lawyer who told me that back dating a contract is not illegal but is only done when there is benefit to both parties and in this case it was purposely done to get around the 10 cancelation law which then voids the contact. He said this was a highly unethical practice. D. Cummings then phoned me later that day and I advised him that my lawyer told me all further contact should be in writing so D. Cummings said he would email me which he never did. Now the charge for the down payment had gone through on my MasterCard (on the day after I said I signed the contract) so I called MasterCard to dispute the claim. I explain the situation and they immediately removed the charge from my card and asked me to send then all the evidence I had which I did. MasterCard investigated and Ecotech has refunded the money back to MasterCard. Lessons learn 1) Always check the date on the contract. Better yet when you sign your name always date your signature. 2) Use a credit card so if there is a problem they will investigate and use their clout and lawyers. 3) Read the back of the contract before you sign don’t feel pressured to sign right away. 4) If it says Lifetime warranty ask what does that mean and compare to others that say this. 5) Have all correspondence in writing and dated (email is great for this) and keep it.

    Answer from pro:

We appreciate any and all feedback regarding our services and products, so thanks for taking the time to respond. Most of what you stated is true, however there are a few details and omissions we would like to point out so that it is clear to readers what actually transpired. First we would like to mention that it is always important to read any contract thoroughly before signing it. Signing something you haven't read through is bound to create issues for you in the future. Everything in our contract is clear and concisely written on a 1 page document, front and back. Our warranty is clearly marked on the back of the contract as 100% coverage for 20 years, then 10% coverage after 20 years. It is called a limited lifetime warranty because it is valid for the lifetime of the window but only covers the full cost for 20 years. Mr. Cummings is a dedicated representative of our company and has been servicing customers for over 30 years with this being the first issue ever posted about him. From our understanding of the situation you had agreed to back-date the contract, with the date clearly posted on the front of the contract, which you signed. The reason you agreed to back-date it was in order to speed up the manufacturing and installation process, otherwise we need to wait out the 10 day grace period before ordering the windows. We would like to mention that there is nothing unethical about back-dating a contract as long as both parties agree to it, which you clearly did. This practice is common in the industry as many clients prefer to rush the order rather than wait out the grace period thereby pushing back manufacturing and installation times. We had tried to resolve the issue with you, even so far as offering to match any written warranty on the market, but it soon became clear that you were not actually interested in any of the issues you were claiming. We are sorry that we could not resolve the situation with you. Though you technically did not have any work done by us we thank you for posting as it gives us an opportunity to explain ourselves to potential future clients.

    Customer service nightmare

BEWARE! The sales person was new and Ecotech did not assume total responsibility for his mistake. You can really tell how much a company is really invested in customer service when things don’t go as planned. Good, reputable companies will assume responsibility for errors. This company blames others first… never themselves. Do yourself a favor: sort the reviews by rating, lowest first and read through them. They may sell good windows, but their customer service is very poor when problems do occur. I contacted Ecotech to replace four windows, the sales person came over to assess my needs, measured the existing windows correctly but wrote down the wrong color in the contract/quote. Four months later, they came over to replace the windows at night, after 6pm in February. It was dark and cold out and it wasn’t until the next day that I noticed the color of all window caps was obviously wrong. I put a stop to the payment immediately by cancelling the cheque before it was cached by Ecotech. This was the only way I could put pressure on Ecotech to resolve the problem quickly. I contacted Ecotech right away to inform them of the wrong color and ask them to fix it. I told them I had cancelled the cheque and wouldn’t pay until the color problem was resolved. They said that they had fulfilled the contract that I signed and that, if I wanted to change the color of the window caps, I would have to cover those costs on my own. They demanded payment immediately or they would start charging me for interest. Ecotech’s office staff was rude, at times threatening and didn’t want to assume full responsibility. They still tried to deposit the cheque that I had told them was cancelled. This prompted Ecotech’s owner to call me directly. He was rude, threatening and not understanding at all of my frustration as a client. Many telephone calls and emails were exchanged and they were only willing to cover half of the cost to replace the window caps. I reluctantly accepted to cover the other half after requesting legal advice on contract disputes. The contract was filled out by Ecotech’s sales person, with the correct measurements and wrong color. I signed it and that was all that mattered. No judge would ever look past that. It took them about 4 weeks to send someone over to replace the window caps. I'm afraid it would have taken much longer if the original cheque had gone through. The new windows are fine, they are well insulated and work as advertised. I regret having contacted Ecotech just for the way I was treated. They were rude, threatening and made me pay for their mistake without never apologizing for anything. A reputable company focuses on good customer service, Ecotech doesn't.

    Answer from pro:

We are sorry to hear your dissatisfaction with our company. The situation was unfortunate but in all fairness you had signed a contract with us and did not review it carefully enough. There was nothing hidden from you and the colour you agreed to on the contract in writing is the exact colour we installed. We even went so far as to pay for half of the correction when it was in no way our fault. There was no issue with the product we did install and was unfair of you to simply choose not to pay for our product and installation. We have resolved the situation with you but the lesson here is to read everything before you sign it. Thanks for your business and try to be more diligent in the future to save yourself any aggravation.

    Amazing sales and service

Don from Eco Tech windows is the consummate professional! Friendly and informative, he made the entire process of choosing our windows such an easy decision. His team of workers are also well trained and efficient. When they came to install the windows, I truly felt like I had nothing to worry about! They did their jobs well and were polite and friendly too! They were also very conscientious about cleaning up after themselves. I would recommend Don and his team in a heartbeat to anyone looking for new windows.

Updated Now fixed! - -Costumer service and warranty fulfilment needs improvement

Updated - May 10th *** edited again, my windows have been replaced *** After many calls from Ecotech to change my review from a 0 to a 10 I have decided to change my review, at the time we weren't getting any returned calls from Ecotech, after this review was written we started getting calls back about our service request. The windows where replaced and we were happy with them. They mentioned they didn't have to replace them as this fault was out of warranty which made us mad as they were two weeks old. They said the glass is not under warrant. They made us feel like we were at fault for the windows breaking. In the end we just wanted to be treated with respect. But again live is to short to hold grudges so we are happy customers now. One nice thing they mentioned was that they said they hired another person in there service area. That was pretty cool, as they recognized a problem and are working to fix it. in the end, I had some trouble, but you might have a better experience now that the company has hired another person. *** Original review Below *** We purchased Ecotech based on some reviews on this site. Most were good some bad. *** edited based on homestars suggestion *** The price was expensive but fair, Sergio was a good sales man and we wanted the windows done right away. They could use some good on following through on what they promise. The windows were installed in a good time given winter was around the corner, the install guys were great. A couple of the windows broke right after the install. We have been calling weekly. They mentioned they should be fixed 10-15 days after the install we have been waiting over 5 months. Hopefully then can improve.

    Answer from pro:

We are sorry to see you give us such a poor review. Unfortunately, we could not have promised you that the glass would be replaced as we do not cover broken glass unless it was done at the time of installation by one of our employees. As it is stated on our contract, "Glass is warrantied for a life time period against seal failure. Glass breakage of any kind is not covered under this warranty". For $9600 we built you a beautiful bay window and installed 11 brick to brick windows that were all triple pane glass. We are very pleased with the work we have done for you. If you require any broken glass to be replaced we would happy to do so however their would a charge associated with it due to the fact that it was not broken by us. Thank you for your business and the referral of your neighbor.
