    Dryer Repair - overcharged

We had a tech come out to repair our dryer. We thought it was broken, but it turned out to be an electrical problem. That much, the technician got right. The service call was supposed to be $80. I was the one who set up the appointment and my wife was there when he came. He charged her $160 because apparently he had to do a maintenance on the dryer to properly diagnose it. This maintenance cost us an extra $80 on top of the service call and my main complain is that at no point did the tech indicate that he was doing something that was going to cost more money. He came upstairs when he was done and gave us the price of $160. I called back the same day and was put on hold for more than 15 minutes, at which point I hung up because I had other things to do. I called back later on in the same week and was told by the customer service rep that the time to dispute charges is when the technician is there. Once the transaction has been completed, they will not reverse any of the charges. Paying the technician amounts to an implicit acceptance of everything that the technician did and agreement with the charges. He said that he couldn't refund the money. In reality he could, but wouldn't refund the money. The moral of the story is, if there are charges that you didn't explicitly agree to, call the office BEFORE you pay the technician to dispute them. Otherwise, there will be no relief. Next time, I will definitely use someone else.

    Samsung washer repair

I called on Dec 29 to have them look at our washer. They sent a wonderful technician the next day. He did a thorough diagnostic and said the main board was toast. They sent PDF receipt with the quote for the repair. 280 parts +220 labour - 80 initial visit credit. Total charge: 420 + tax We were so impressed with the speed and professionalism we agreed. We called back that day (Dec 30) and gave our credit card information and they said it'd be 1-2 weeks for the part to get in. Fine. On Jan 16, after not hearing a peep, I followed up with them and they had no idea what I was talking about. "Oh, would you like to go ahead with that sir?" No kidding. I was forwarded to an internal office person who commented the part was showing in stock in Calgary and they could have me up and running by Friday. Jan 19 I called as I hadn't heard anything about timing for the appointment and they seemed dumbfounded AGAIN!!! Not knowing where the part was and what was going on. ON that day they charged my CC $236 (total spent: $320 thus far to tell me something I already know). Jan 20, I had to call AGAIN several times to speak to them and they said the part was in the ON warehouse and would be rushed 3 day delivery. 3 Day in today's world? Did they give it to Joe to drive across the country? Jan 23, called again to ensure it shipped and the tracking number. We don't have a tracking number for it, the warehouse just said they shipped it. WTF? Don't worry sir, it'll be here soon. Jan 24, same story Jan 25 same story Jan 27, they gave me the number of the tech who would pick it up from the store. Talked to him directly and he was really good at understanding my frustration and telling me the truth and following up with me instead of me having to chase them down. Part finally shows up in Vancouver Feb 1 and the tech calls to say it is in. I say he can come by anytime today to install it. Sorry, today is his day off. WHAT?!?!? People deserve time off and it was good of him to call and say it was there, but when you commit to coming in by whenever the part is available.... Then he goes to charge me and I mentioned the head office gave a concession on the labour because of the terrible service and he had no idea. Sort of worked it out and paid the bill of $190. Total cost (320 + 190) $510! When to my math should only be 280 parts + 100 labour +80 init visit - 80 credit = 380 + tax. And the icing on the cake...on a 4 month warranty on parts + labour. The tech was super great, nice polite and customer focused. The back office is either incompetent or fraudulent. I can't confirm. Honestly folks, PICK ANY OTHER REPAIR SERVICE.

    Microwave installation, Etobicoke

I normally don't like to write bad reviews but this company is just useless and unprofessional with poor customer service. Here's my story. I called Appliance Repair Service to install my over the range microwave. So, the first so called "technician" shows up with just a small tool bag over his shoulder. He takes the old microwave out and after he removes it he says that he needs more tools and a second man to help with the job. Then he says "we don't normally install appliances" to which I said why do you guys say you did when you don't. To this he just shrugs his shoulders. At this point I'm so mind boggled by what he said. So I call the manager Raj to tell him what's going on and he says that he will send two guys to install the appliance for me. So, this is day #1 of me taking a day off of work. Now, I've made a 2nd service appointment and guess what just 1 "technician" shows up again with just a small tool bag. He says "I know they booked 2 guys but I'm gonna see if I can do it myself". At this point my patience is wearing thin. Then he looks at the brackets and says I'm gonna need more tools so I might have to come another day to finish it". WTF!!!!!! I'm so angry at this point. I've taken 2 days off work for this. I called the manager and he says "sorry you're gonna have to find someone else to do this for you". Keep away from this company. They are not professional and they send incompetent "technicians" to work on your home appliances. I've lost 2 days of pay and now I have to look for another company to come install the microwave. I'm extremely disappointed and frustrated with their service. So, the only thing I can do right now is to warn other potential customers so they don't have to face the same disappointment that I did.

    Fridge Repair

I was very pleased with the service from this company. The technician, Max, was very knowledgeable, friendly and patient (he answered all of my questions and gave valuable advice). The company offers a 3 month warranty on parts and labour which I appreciate as I had to call them a second time for a different reason on the same fridge. I would definitely use them again and would recommend them as well.

Mistakes Made, Admitted to, and Customer has to "Pay the Price"

The job was dispatched incorrectly the first time. Second time, the technicians were late. They did not touch base to notify of time or arrival. Technicians were polite and capable. Manager is polite and apologetic but seems to have no recourse to restore good will to the customer. He said, "This job did not go well, and unfortunately, you as a customer had to pay the price this time." Dispatch operators are rude, and are also not empowered or trained on how to restore good will and recover a bad impression. I spoke to two women and they both said, "I'm sorry that we made a mistake, but what do you want me to do about it now? I'm just the dispatch." The work is only guaranteed for 3 months after the time of repair. HomeStars should check its credibility when they have a company like ARS with a high rating, and then you see Google ratings of the same company with very low ratings.

    Electric Dryer Repair

Called to book an appointment as our Dryer was making noise. Told that for $80 fee, a technician would come out and diagnose the problem and if we proceeded with the Repair the $80 would be waived. The Technician arrived and said that only option was for him to do a $250 "Dryer Service" and then could tell us what the problem was. He refused to do a diagnosis or even open up the machine. Paid the $80, but really feel that we should not have, as did not get the service that was promised.

    Avoid this company

Very poor customer service. Overpriced parts and service. Company runs out of Concord so any service in London has to wait for parts to be delivered. Wanted to charge almost $400 for a fifteen minute repair requiring a part they claimed would be $170 ( which I purchased locally for $129). They charge a 3% surcharge to use a credit card and require one with half the cost of the full repair paid up front. They did not deliver service as promised and after calling several times I finally canceled and did the repair myself. They refused to refund the difference owed me for having done the repair myself. I will never use this company again.
