Had windows installed by Canadian Choice Windows, errors were made when installation happened. We have since been contacted by the company to rectify the situation. My review is pending upon completion of this project.
Update:
The company sent out a crew to reinstall one window that has a huge gap at the bottom on the exterior of the house. They said they would move the window down, closing the gap up. They did take the window out, replaced a wooden board that was rotting, and put the window back exactly in the same position. The gap is still there, the only difference is that they used colored silicone instead of the clear that was originally used.
The colored silicone was used to replace the clear silicone around all the windows. The problem now is that it still looks terrible, and the silicone will always have to be maintained in order to protect the house from the elements. Our drip caps have been bent back, but not repainted, they have chipped paint all over them, so they are still not back to the original condition. Although they did phone and tell us that they had paint available for us so we could do it ourselves in the springtime as a little project.
They promised to send a siding contractor out to our house at the same time as the installation crew to fix our siding that they damaged. This did not happen. We had an outside inspector come and assess damages, they promised to pay for the cost of that as well, they did not.
We have since sent an email contacting the company giving them a week to respond to our grievances, and they have been completely silent on their end. Absolutely no response given. Save yourself a huge headache, time and energy and do not use this crooked company, they do not care about clients, and will be completely dishonest about their intentions.
The only contact that we have had since the re-installation of 1 window, was for us to sign a release form for the Alberta Energy Efficiency Rebate release form. We refuse to sign anything for a release for incomplete work.
Our original review:
We met with Kevin the sales rep for our area, everything seemed great. We felt we were in good hands with Canadian Choice Windows and Doors to replace 5 windows on our main floor.
When we got the call to have our windows installed, I said I was working that day, but was told they couldn't reschedule. We felt we had no choice but to have the installers do the work while both my husband and I were at work.
They showed up and started the work and everything seemed fine by the time I left for work.
When we returned home from, we were disgusted with the work that had been done.
The following is a list of issues we initially found:
1. Gouge in siding under front left window.
2. Gouge in siding next to front right window.
3. Multiple cut marks in various spots around most windows.
4. All flashings were bent with paint scrapped/chipped off.
5. Large gap between bottom of kitchen window and siding.
6. Large gap between bottom of laundry window and siding.
7. Scrapes around every window from removal of old caulking. This was then covered by clear caulking. Scrapes are still completely visible.
We had contacted our sales rep Kevin, he said he would come and take a look, but he sent Jason and his installers over instead to look at the work done. Jason said that this is the way windows are always installed. Really?? How are you guys even in business? His resolution was to come and change over the clear caulking to coloured caulking to match the house. As well to just use caulking/silicone to fill in the gouges. He didn't care about what happened with our flashings. He said they would come over in the next week to recaulk the problems.
Unsatisfied with the resolution, we contacted Kevin again to come and look at the work done. We went over all the damaged areas with him on the outside looking for him to offer us a satisfactory resolution. His response was that he was not very happy with the holes, scratches, gaps or the flashings. He told us that he would bring this up to service to come up with a resolution and he would get back to us within the week.
He also stated that due to our dissatisfaction with the install team as well as Jason's dismissive attitude towards all the damages, that he had another team that he could send out to do the repairs.
We received a phone call from Alan in service, he seemed to not be informed of any details of what had happened. He asked us for an email and to include photos.
Later that week, we received a call from Jason. He said that he had time that day to come and replace the caulking. Despite the fact that Kevin said he would send a different crew to fix everything. We asked Jason about this and he responded by saying "The crew that does the job, is the only person that comes back. I'm the install manager and I'm the one that deals with any issue."
Since that time, we removed interior frames to inspect the damage inside. We have found that there is foam lacking in certain spots. BLACK MOLD on 3 separate windows that was obviously not treated or repaired in anyway.
The kitchen window under the frame is disintegrating and the installation crew or anyone from Canadian Choice Windows & Doors said anything about any of these issues. Not only did this not get repaired, but nobody from this company informed us of these issues.
It has now been a week since we have sent an email to the company and nearly 2 weeks since Kevin has come to look at the work done with no response of a resolution.
We have now gone to the BBB, maybe now this company will contact us with an appropriate resolution.
