Well let’s say I’m learning my lessons the hard way. Took possession on November 29th 2017 to a two storey 2131sqft home with a partially finished basement.
I’ll let you know now that Trico will build you a home that looks good UNTIL you start discovering the problem. Missing items, burnt out LED bulbs in 6 weeks, wrong installation of bathroom doors, missing stairwell railings and you name it. Good thing is they will make best efforts to try to fix it until you challenge them on a few and they will push back that “it passed code” “ oh well, it’s human error” etc.
I partially developed my basement with Trico and couldn’t do the full basement due to financial restraint. My plan was to finish it after possession at my convenience. They had the future planned drawings and knew what it was. Yet Trico laid out all the plumbing, wiring, connections in the wrong place rending my drawing and space useless.
Even when I discovered there was an issue with one of the location of drainage which wasn’t supposed to be there, they made it look like they fixed it by extending a plumbing pole. I saw it and questioned it and they told me that whoever finishes the basement will know how to build the wall around it.
We take possession and I’m thinking everything looks good, only for me to hire a contractor that’s pointing out all the lousy jobs that Trico did. He wants me to bring it to their attention so they can fix it before he starts the job. I do and Trico responds that they passed code so they don’t see a problem with it.
Now my contractor is continuing with the job and I’m having to do a lot of dropped ceiling because of the awkward spaces they put the vent, exhaust etc. I’m losing a lot of soft because we now have to work within the lousy job done by Trico.
My contractor had to do some rewiring in the basement because Trico felt they passed code so it was okay, that someone made a mistake and their customer has to pay for it was okay.
Would I build with Trico again? ABSOLUTELY NOT. If they were the last builder on planet earth then I would hire my own contractor that would do the walkthroughs with me. Someone outside of Trico’s payroll.
My only SOMEWHAT experience with them is with the sales team who are selling you a dream but have nothing to do with the work done by the “trades” guys.
