    Furnace replacement

The work was neatly done and good job on the installation. Professional staff. Took 8 hours which seemed long but the technician was talking his time to make sure everything was ok so i didn't mind. He didn't cut corners like previous companies I've had experience with (ie. He installed an intake line when other company didn't bother). Would recommend.

Thank you Vogie! We very much appreciate your time and effort in writing this review. I am happy that you recognize the value in our slow and methodical approach to installations. We never rush through them and always end up with a great, neat job, that is safely done. Wishing you a wonderful year ahead. Replace furnace & AC unit

Overall Rating B. Good - Marnie very pleasant, knowledgeable, returns calls & makes every effort to help a customer make an informed decision. - Installers, neat, extremely tidy, professional & return calls - Price reasonable Area for improvement - "RED TAGGED" for work someone else did - understand there may be liability - 100% get it. - Given 14 days to address "RED TAG" or gas line would be cut, not knowing any better I should have asked for more time. - Quickly realized "RED TAG" means anyone you call may try and take advantage of "RED TAG" situation. My suggestion - Start with a "overall gas installation inspection" instead of ending the installation with an "overall gas inspection." - Provide a firm quote on corrective action so it can be addressed during the installation. Outside of the above would have given an "A", everyone I spoke to was pleasant.

    Answer from pro:

Hi sir, thanks for this review. Although you are listed as a private user, I recognize the situation and remember you well. First and foremost, thank you for your time in doing this review and thank you for commending my attentiveness to customer service. I try extremely hard, as do my entire team. I will pass on your compliments to Adam and Adam my talented technicians. Their workmanship is so outstanding. Finally, in addressing your unsafe gas line that we discovered, it is very important for you and for other homestars users reading this to understand the situation. Like doctors, we work by a strict code of conduct, a personal oath if you will, to uphold all laws related to fuel safety - with no exceptions. There is a TSSA manual that clearly lays out infractions and the related course of action that must follow the discovery of one (and in your case it was 14 days, we didn't randomly choose this to inconvenience you). This process of called a Red Tag. It saves lives. We found that your gas contractor had previously run a gas line for a stove in an unsafe manor that did not comply with the TSSA code book. By law, Adam had to report it to you, and to Enbridge. Then you as the owner are required immediately (14 days in this law) to have it corrected by a licensed techncian. I know you understand all of this, and I think you are grateful that we potentially saved your family from the possiblily of severe injury, explosion and/or death. However, I listened to your suggestion in your review, that a full inspection of gas safety be done first. However, we are trained that during an installation - in which we are disconnecting everything anyway - that we do the inspection of our own work and any other gas product in the room, upon completion. Upon completion. This is what Adam did. The beginning of the job is for planning out how the installation will go. So, as much as I really do appreciate your suggestion, its unfair to make Adam look less than professional, as the gas line in question that was run by your friend was running behind the duct work and in a hard place to see. It then travelled behind a wall. Furthermore, the instances of this type of thing happening are extremely rare. We almost never have an isssue during an installation. Meaning, most technicians do jobs properly and this is the first red tag in many years we've found during a furnace installation; if it was a common re-occurring industry issue, then of course it would be protocol to check out the entire gas situation - first - to prepare customers. But its really quite rare, so we werent trying to make life inconvenient for you by leaving it to the last minute. Adam simply didn't notice it until towards the end of the day. Not such a big deal, at least he found it. All other technicians over the years you've dealt with never noticed it at all and your contractor lied to you and told you it WAS done to code and that we were incorrect. I'm proud of what we did for you. I promised you from the first day we met, I'd give you an excellent job, a safe job and we'd pay attention to details no one else would. We met every criteria point I promised. And even though we only got an 8/10, which I am truly grateful for, I know we are worth a 10! Thank you for your kind words. Wishing you a safe and healthy year ahead. Marnie Amodeo, General Manager Convertible Heating & AC (Since 1967) 50 YEARS

Furnace replacement and fix tankless gas pipe

Chris was a pleasure to work with. He came and assessed what we needed. He sat down with us and explained everything in detail. He was also kind enough to fix our gas piping for our tankless water heater that was installed incorrectly. The gentlemen who came to do the actual work were very professional. The job was done neatly. They cleaned up and ensured that the job was done with the utmost quality of care. Thank you again. The stress level of the incorrect install of the tankless heater gas pipe was put to rest when your team came in and fixed it. The furnace is quiet as can be! You guys are amazing!

    New gas furnance installation, Toronto

I am a professional engineer who will "go to the ends of the earth" to find the most reputable firm to do a complex engineering installation job. When it came to the conversion of our 2006-era electric furnace over to a new gas fired furnace I wanted to find a highly reputable company in Toronto to do the job. I spent a good 14 months compiling a list of a dozen companies, chatted with them via email and had 5 of them come out to the house to chat about the installation. All in all, almost all of them came to the same final cost, regardless of furnace manufacture, but each used different, arbitrary prices for the sub-components. However, there tended to be a great difference in the way each salesman presented himself and his interest in my specific requests. Chris was unlike any of the others -- he immediately reminded me of my fellow UofT Engineering Science classmates back in the day. He did not jump into a sale pitch, as the others often did, but rather outlined the requirements + conversion process in a very methodical and well explained manner. I was actually quite surprised by how he presented the task at hand. After I had narrowed down the contenders to 3, it was only Chris who promptly replied to my email (within a day, not a week like others) and also was willing to take into account my specific request for special furnace & filter placement. After the gas line was installed by Enbridge, Chris sent in two of his best guys, Kamil and James, to do the job, showing up promptly at 8:30am. One was the qualified installer with certificate, the other his helper. As per the other reviews, they were very professional and their final work truly impressed me (and I don't state that lightly). The company who provided the 2006 electric furnace installation did a really slick job and I couldn't imagine anyone else doing something better - yet, I have to say that the work of these two guys, over a full 1.5 days, was spectacular and better than anything I could have imagined in my mind. Suffice it to say, installing a new gas furnace is quite an undertaking yet both of them did it at quite a clip. In the end I opted for a 60k BTU Amana 2 stage with ECM motor and replacement A/C coil. When it started up, with a dead cold house, the vents blew an air storm unlike I've ever seen or heard in my life (a tornado!) but once the house was heated the motor dialed down to a very quite setting, which makes you wonder if the fan is actually running at all. They also intelligently relocated our humidifier to a better location on the new furnace and made sure it was working, as that had been a thorn in my side with the prior furnace. Choosing a reputable company for such an expensive home infrastructure project can be a difficult decision to make, and indeed it was for me, but I am quite happy to have gone with Chris + his father Sam at Convertible Heating & Air Conditioning. Disclaimer: I am not associated in any manner with this company but rather I am just a new customer of theirs.

    Answer from pro:

Wow! This is fantastic. I am so happy to read this review, I'm welling up (again). Only my children and really good home star reviews bring tears to my eyes. This is because we really love the feeling we get from doing a good job and enriching the lives of others through our service. This is in fact our 50th birthday as a family owned and operated business and you couldn't have kicked it off with a better review than this. And I LOVE your disclaimer, I think that's hilarious. We sell by educating the customer on how the job will go, what is needed to meet all safety codes, and what product is best for the clients individual needs, not our own greedy motivations or personal kick backs. We know that an educated customer is a smarter customer and will more likely get a safer and better installation by meeting with us; even if they don't use us, they now know what to ask for and how not to be taken advantage of. Thank you for recognizing this in us, we think the world would be a much better place if businesses actually put their customers' needs ahead of their own, but actually doing that, not just saying it for good marketing purposes. On behalf of my brother Christopher, father Sam and all of our incredible office staff and technicians at Convertible Heating & AC - Welcome to the family. New furnace and water heater

Needed new furnace and wanted to replace my rental water heater with a purchased one. Contacted 3 companies, and convertible was obviously the one to go with based on price and sales staff. The install was quick and well done.

    New furnace installation

The short version: If you need reliable, professional HVAC service, these guys are the best. I wholeheartedly recommend them. First, the call: Our furnace had become unreliable. Blower motor having a hard time and burners not staying lit. Then, it crapped out completely. Called Convertible who sent Tahir out to see what was up. He confirmed that blower motor was completely shot. Called in to find the cost to repair: >$1,000. He clearly explained my options with some helpful advice but without any sales pitch. I decided a new furnace was the best bet. Marnie called to talk options. Clearly outlined our choices, was happy to go into as much or as little details as I wanted. Her "pitch" gave me all the info I needed and the price for a nice 2-stage, ultra-efficient furnace ended up being within our reach with installation and disposal of the old unit included. FFWD to the next day. 8am, David and his crew of two arrive with our new HE furnace. David explains the process. He and his crew are polite, fast and efficient. Our new furnace is in and working by about 10:30 and the team did a pretty good job of cleaning up after themselves. They even fixed some shoddy venting work that the previous furnace installation had left when they technically didn't have to do so. I certainly appreciated that little extra. Later, we discover that the furnace isn't staying on. I read the error code and call Convertible. They send someone out within a few hours. I'm afraid his name escapes me but he was also polite, clearly knew his stuff and he kept us informed. It turns out that a dirty air filter was the cause of the trouble. Not enough air was getting through and things were shutting off to avoid overheating. Installer's fault? Well, they might have thought to take a look a the filter before packing up but no, not their fault. My fault? Yeah. The filter really was pretty filthy (we had some renos done and we're still dealing with the mess) and I'd forgotten to change it. Whatever the case, I wasn't charged for the follow-up. The problem was fixed and I'm very happy with the result. Sidebar: We came to discover that the previous owner of our home didn't believe in routine maintenance. Not on furnaces, not on cars, not on anything. So now, I'm sitting in my toasty warm house, wondering what will be the next thing to go ;-) At least I know it won't be HVAC-related.

    Furnace Repair

This is, in fact, the second time that I have used Convertible Air to service my rental property in downtown Toronto . The first time was in August to service the air conditioner (my wife called while I out of town and made the call based on the Homestars rating provided here) and this past week, I made the call to repair the furnace. The furnace is a nearly 20 year old mid -efficiency model . The issue being that fan would not work in the normal auto position on the themostat, but would function in manual mode meaning the fan was on all the time. I found the service techician, Raj, who I am naming as I think he deserves the recognition- to be very professional, personable and willing take the tme to explain what the problem was. In addtion to the fan issue, he noticed that there was "lag" in the igniter and he believed that a new control board would likely correct both issues. He quoted me what I believe to be a fair price for the parts and labour and new control board was ordered. Once the part arrived, he coordinated the install with the tenant which I really appreciated saving me the trip. I mention this as I felt comfortable enough based on our phone conversation to let him do his job. I appreciate that I was able to speak with the technician directly and I am very satisfied with the outcome. As a long time Ebay user who has been buying stuff successfully for years based on other members anonymous reviews, I find these "peer to peer" review sites like Homestars very useful in finding a reputable company. I would recommend this company to Homeowers for a furnace or air conditioning repair. Robert

    Furnace, A/C and Humidifier

I had the pleasure of meeting both Chris and Marnie Amodeo and must say they are true professionals. The owner of the Company should be proud to have such great siblings. We were educated as to options available, no hard sell was evident at all and all technical details were explained including warranties and Government rebates. We went with the American Standard combo "great value for money" and Generalaire humidifier. Our installation team was Adam and Adam and they carried on in true "convertible spirit". They treated our premises as if they were in their own homes and were patient and exacting with the install down to the finest detail. It is heartwarming to see such excellent service from the "Convertible Team" We did shop around before coming to our decision and would recommend this family Company.
