    Window and Patio Door

Booked in June 2021 for brick to brick replacement of 7 windows and a patio door. Windows were installed in early September, I was told the patio door would be installed the following week. The Patio door was installed in late October. I was told that the windows we selected would meet the energy home grant $125.00 rebate, they do not. The do not have the right energy star rating. I also ordered a kick lock on my patio door. That was not installed. It is on the invoice. I had emailed the company multiple times about the late install of my patio door and left messages but rarely received a response. I emailed about the missing kick lock on October 21st and have not had a response. (Its Nov 3rd) Install persons were great, they were professional and cleaned up after work was done. Communication from the company is terrible. Overall disappointed in being told they windows would meet energy rating requirements and they do not.

    Answer from pro:

Hello Meagan, Our windows do qualify for the Greener Home Rebate it seems you requested a different coating on the patio door. Thus the reason for not being able to recieve the rebate you were looking for on that particular item. Delays are current issue in the industry right now we will always get back to every customer regarding about any outstanding's. Glad that your family was able to have comfortable winter with our energy efficient windows. Any concerns feel free to call us at 1-888-880-6827, Thank you! EcoTech Windows & Doors

    Front door great! Basement window...terrible

We met with an amazing salesperson and our front door is the pride of our neighbourhood. However...the basement window is terrible. I have called numerous times for service. The flashing on the outside has a big hole in it (they never replaced it!) 5 separate service calls were logged and one person showed up with the wrong piece (wood for the inside instead of vinyl for the outside) and then they cancelled the next 4 times! Now no one will answer the phone. It's been a year. Stay away from this company.

    Answer from pro:

Thank you for choosing EcoTech Windows & Doors. We apologize for all delays. Now that the service has been completed for quite sometime we were hoping you would update your review as you stated you were very happy with the door and the salesperson. We take pride in our products and installation unfortunately, it is construction and not everything always goes as planned. We thank you for your business your patience and your support. Sales Rep 10/10, Back Office 1/10, Installer 6/10

Our sales rep was amazing, took the time to explain everything and give an honest recommendation. The process went smoothly, we didn't care about the delay for materials/manufacturing from COVID-19 as everyone was in the same situation. Install date came, Ecotech uses a third party contractor which turned us off a bit, especially when his team (of course an accident) hit our newly installed metal roof with their truck. The company took ownership right away, and paid for it to be fixed, no questions asked. There was silicone from the install on the windows which had to be scraped off, and now we notice that on most of the windows, the caulk is cracking on the edges. A bit sloppy in my opinion with the silicone but they performed a clean install. After sales now, that is where we have a problem which has not been solved to date. Our sales rep said they would be putting a frost on the bathroom window, and after inspecting after installing; there was no record on the sales contract according to the office. The invoice/estimate has a lot of information on it, no boxes to show "frost yes/no" but apparently it was supposed to be written on it. The recommendation from the office was to go buy a film from the hardware store to cover it. It looks awful. After paying over $7,000 for the windows, this really left a sour taste in our mouth especially since the sales rep was raving about how good the after-sales dept. is. Its been a few months now, the windows are doing great, one of the cranks has come off but It was just the screw that needed to be tightened; and of course, the unfrosted bathroom window with a cheap $50 film on it from Home Depot.

    Answer from pro:

Hello Graham, We're happy you enjoyed majority of the process of your windows, we understand some miscommunication might've happened regarding you wanting the frosted glass on a window. We strive to make every experience as enjoyable for the customer but unfortunately on the order a frosted glass wasn't selected on time of order.

    Double Doors

Extremely Disappointed!!! This has been a very frustrating experience and I don't want anyone else to go through this. I purchased top of the line steel doors. The double door installation started with a hole cut in the second door that I did not request and the pushbutton keypad installed but not functioning in the primary door. The installers stayed while I ran to the store to get another lock to cover the hole in the second door. The handles were installed unevenly. After two months of back and forth with the service department, the installers returned. The service department would not tell me what the installers were going to do but that the installers would work with a service technician when they arrived. But the installers did not have any intention or instructions to talk with a service technician. Instead they tried to fix the uneven anchors for the handles by drilling the holes bigger. They scratched the paint off the outside of the second door in the process of moving the handle. I hired a locksmith to replace the keypad with one that works (although there are scratches from the first one that are visible) and I'm still trying to buy something to cover the hole in the second door rather than having a dead bolt there that is not functional and doesn't match. But so far I have not been able to find anything in the market place. And notably the paint around that hole is all caving and cracking. I don't know if that is the result of having the door handles moved or if its a problem with the paint. The paint on the doors is not very good. It appears to scratch very easily. Hence my doors are very marked up after only being here 2 months. I would suggest you steer away from this company for doors. I have no experience with them with windows. But if I were buying doors again, I would instead go with a local company that uses local installers and lots of experience doing this kind of work. Service never gets back to me. They say they will and they don't. They say they are going to call and they don't. I call in and they say someone will get back to me and they don't. You cannot call them directly as their phone numbers all go to a central answering service which goes to voice mail most of the time and when you get someone, they take a message which never gets answered. Their service department must be very busy which suggests they have a lot of issues to deal with. Overall...bad experience : steer clear.

    Answer from pro:

Hello, As for all of the double doors they come automatically with two wholes for dead bolts or handles. Reason for this is to make sure access for both openings are accessible. Changing the the locks multiple times will leave a bit of mark but we do provide touch up paint for our high quality doors, but this impossible to prevent. We're happy to resolve any other issues you may occur, shouldnt be any as our doors are top of the line. Ecotech Windows & Doors

    Window and Door installation

The installation of the windows and door were completed 3 separate times as the door was on backorder which was fine. First the windows were installed. We were originally told it would take 1.5 days but ended up confirmed with only 1 day and were told it would be a bigger crew coming that's why it should take less time. At the end 3 technicians showed up and was rushing to finish the job and there were several defect noted: 1. Some of the windows were not fitting properly and we can see the technicians were forcing the windows in, one of them the frame ended cracking a bit and bulged up. My husband has to fix it himself. There were also visible dents from the spot of the screw and my husband had to fill it up before we started painting the frame. 2. The technicians broke the ceiling light but did not say a word until we found broken glass on the 2nd floor and on the stair and confronted them. We had little kids in the house and having broken glass laying around is not acceptable. And the fact that they didn't try to clean it up baffled us. At the end they told us to contact the office and they will handle it. The internal office team told us that the technicians are covered by insurance and they should pay for it. And then later told us they talked to the technicians and they found the exact same light and will come to install it when they come back to install the door. Of course it ended up to be a different team installing the door and they didn't know about the light and right now we still have a broken light without any confirmation when that will be fixed or will be deducted from the balance. 3. My husband saw the technicians lick their fingers to smoothen out the chalking. Even if not COVID this practice is extremely unhygienic and not acceptable. We had to lysol wiped everything after. And also the washrooms (both upstairs and downstairs) were left filthy after the day and we found one of the toilets was NOT flushed when we were cleaning after they left. We don't mind letting them use it but were hoping they can also respect the place. 4. We saw finger prints and tape marks in between the window. We first thought it was either inside or outside the window glass but after multiple attempts to clean it we figured it was in between the 2 layers and no way we can clean them Second time was the door installation team. They brought the new door and the lock. Unfortunately the door only had one hole drilled for the door lock and one bolt pocket when the door lock system needed 2. We purchased the door lock from the company directly and would expect the manufacturing side knows what is being installed. It was installed on a Friday and they didn't have the proper tool, we have to wait until the following Monday to have another technician to have it fixed. During the process they also managed to crack the floor tile while taking out the old door and we didn't know (again we were not informed) until we started cleaning up the area after they left. When we talked to our sales Felix he said that lock was meant to be temporary and we supposed to get a different one as the one we ordered was on backorder and now we are even more confused. During the last visit, the technician spent 2 hours to drill the holes on the door and the side to properly install the whole locking system. While he was using the chisel to create the 2nd bolt pocket he also damaged the new weather strip.

    Answer from pro:

Hello, Firstly we would like to offer a sincere apology on the behalf of our install team. Our installers are held to a high standard and we are appalled at their actions. In regards to the light fixture, there has been an amount credited to your account as discussed with our accounts receivable team. Our service manager will be reaching out today in regards to the rest of the issues described in your comment. Again, we sincerely apologize and hope we are able to come to a conclusion on your issues.

    Door replacement

Critical: Response Times After purchasing a door in October 2020 we got it installed in February 2021. We were very pleased with the look of the door, however after a few months we noticed a gap between the door and frame generating more draft than our old door. We contacted them a number of times over four months to get it resolved and after escalating the issue it has now been corrected.
