Per NADCA standards, sealing the vents are important to ensure that the system is contained to prevent blow back and under constant/significant pressure when the negative collection system is applied. Dust in the house after a duct cleaning service shouldn't be caused when this service is performed properly. Only time when dust can be an issue is during the agitation process whereby unsettling of dust on top of the ductwork can occur - these areas are typically not dusted and usually are pronounced if the basement is unfinished. Per NADCA standards it's recommended that air duct cleaning be performed following renovations in your home. Contractors may sub-contract their trades and may not be on job sites to constantly supervise and it's commonplace for debris to make it's way into the duct work. (In some instances, not all). We value and respect our customers homes and we do our best to mitigate any cross-contamination of debris during our service.
