I’m from small town Midland, where everyone says “shop local” “support local businesses” “local businesses offer better service than out of town”. Although I’m all for shopping local, there are some skills that local businesses cannot hold a candle to when compared to out-of-town businesses. And it’s sad that local businesses continue to prove this to be true. In the last 6 months I have experienced both options … for the same identical job – replacing nine windows and one patio door.
This was a major upgrade to my house therefore only reasonable that I get multiple quotes. I sought out four quotes for this job – Clera Windows by FM Industries against three local businesses.
My decision was not based solely on price - there was so much more that had to be taken into consideration in choosing the right company. It was based on how the vendor treated me. Did he talk “down” to me or talk “to” me. Did he answer my questions or made me feel stupid for asking. Did he teach me something about his product or did he skim through the product information thereby missing an opportunity to teach. Did he speak negatively about other businesses. Can I find previous customers who have dealt with them and could provide a recommendation based on their experience or is the only information available what I can find on their websites (testimonials “they” choose so of course would be positive). Not one of the four businesses “shined” and I ultimately chose a local company -- ONLY because they came with two unsolicited recommendations. Little did I know I was making the biggest mistake!
The local company came and installed on December 13 and 14, 2015. By the end of December I started having problems with the windows icing up (11 degrees difference from one room to the other) and the patio door had thick ice buildup along the bottom and up both sides (I had to shrink wrap my new patio door!). By March 04, 2016 after meeting with the manufacturer I had lost complete faith in the product; they could not resolve the issues and the vendor agreed to remove his nine windows and one patio door and provide a full refund of what I had paid. A new company – a company from out-of-town – Clera Windows by FM Industries was hired to re-installed all nine windows and one patio door. This was completed May 16 and 17, 2016.
Based on my experience, I can confidently say - there is absolutely NO comparison – the local company was sub-standard, and provided deplorable and unacceptable workmanship – while the out-of-town company - Clera Windows by FM Industries - was far superior, professional, with skilled technicians (installers) that took pride in providing excellent workmanship.
Clera Windows by FM Industries renewed my faith that there is still a ‘male dominant business / company’ out there, that respects female customers as decision makers. They helped flip a very negative experience (with the local company) and showed me the kind of service and workmanship I should have received.
Thank You Clera Windows by FM Industries – Les, Ryan and Chris - for your understanding of this horrible situation and showing me that you take pride in the work you do and that it’s not all about the bottom line. I’m impressed with the product. The two techs (Chris and Ryan) were professionals at all levels; they showed much patience while answering the multitude of questions; took pride in their skills, making sure to ask the customer’s opinion when something had to be changed; they were polite and respectful. Their workmanship excelled and they took the extra time and steps to pay special attention to the little details.
Without hesitation - I would highly recommend Clera Windows by FM Industries.
