UPDATE - May 7, 2021
This is a follow-up review after having gone through over a year in the home and experiences with the warranty service.
For the first year, warranty service was good. I have no real complaints about it. The warranty service coordinators were good, responsive, and deficiencies were fixed quickly.
The main driver for the update to the original review is the experience with warranty service after the one year mark. My complaint revolves around siding...more specifically, the finishing of the siding. There are 3 other homes within 1-2 blocks from my home that are the same model. All of our houses were built in the same year yet those 3 houses' siding is finished differently than mine. Siding should have folded edges/trim that runs along the edges of where the siding ends. It doesn't affect the installation structurally but it gives it the finished look. Similarly to let's say a sports car that has side skirts. The sports car body is still functionally fine. The side skirts just gives it that extra finished/sporty look. My house's siding doesn't have the trim that the other 3 houses have.
Reporting it to Trico, their response was focused on how framing, elevation, etc. would affect the siding install. That was never what I was arguing yet they insisted to focus on that one. Stating there is no defect, which I never claimed there was, again missed the point. Stating that it is up to "the installer on-site who makes a call on the best and nicest way to start/finish the siding product" really is just a way to say if the contractor isn't lazy, they will finish the edges.
I can accept the response about different houses having different finishing but as I pointed out to Trico several times, and each time it not being properly acknowledged, is that the houses I brought to their attention are the SAME model as my house and built in the SAME year.
I expect the builder to represent their customers better. Rather than taking the responses from their trades as the definitive truth, it would be a no brainer if they just look at the pictures I provided and think logically to what I presented to them. Instead, I continued to get a template answer over and over again.
Am I sour about this? Yes. This latest experience really has changed my view of Trico and their service to their clientelle.
---------------------------
We had a new home built in Carrington. This was our first new build home so we were a bit anxious due to stories from friends of how stressful the process can be. The Trico team, from sales to service, made our home building experience incredibly pleasant and a primarily stress free experience. The Trico team is friendly, professional, responsive and genuinely caring. Even the trades they use for warranty work is so far, top notch. Aside from some things not completed that were out of Trico's control (seasonal things due to winter), our new home has met and somewhat exceeded our expectations. I would not hesitate to recommend Trico to anyone who is looking to build a new home. If I were to build a new home in the future, I will definitely seek out a community that Trico is building in.
