    Purchased a show home

In October of 2018, my wife and I were in the neighborhood of Legacy and decided to visit this show home. We both fell in love with the home the moment we walked in and were kind of regretting walking in as we were not at all prepared to sell our existing home and upgrade to this beautiful home. Fast forward to May 2019 and we are the proud owners of this beautiful "Show Home" with tons of upgrades and fully finished walk out basement. We faced many challenges throughout the process, one of the biggest being putting our existing house on market and getting it sold! Thanks to our realtor and a big shout out to Yaz at Trico, we were able to get everything sorted out and make our dream come true. Yaz has been terrific throughout the process and is still helping us with our questions (as the house is still being used as a Show home under leaseback condition). Only reason for giving Trico 4 out of 5 stars is because we feel that there was lack of communication from the main office especially with questions and concerns involving Leaseback terms and conditions. This delayed the buying process in general and we think if the main office had better knowledge, this could have been handled in a much smoother way. Overall we are quite satisfied and are eagerly waiting to get the final possession date from Trico.

It's so great to hear that we were able to help you sell your current home to purchase a Trico showhome. New Home in Calgary NW

My wife and I moved to Calgary in Jan 17 and wanted to buy on arrival. We looked for a considerable amount of time and decided that new would be our best route. We were so pleased with the open layout of the Trico home which lead to us making an offer. The company setup regular visits within our first year and throughout that time we found a few deficiencies that needed attention (a little paint splatter on counter and floors, unsure of how to operate security panel, loose railing to the basement, faucets had a little calcium buildup). Every single one of the items was addressed and corrected in a very short amount of time. We were already happy with the purpose but these little corrections throughout the first year gave us so much confidence in them and in our purchase. My wife are so happy with our first home and have the peace of mind that we made the right decision to buy new.

Do not buy a house from this company!!!

Very bad experience with Trico Homes after we move in our new house. They use very bad quality contractors. Find another builder if you know want you want is a good quality house. Here are some problems my house has: 1. One of the windows on the second floor is not well sealed, we could feel that the wind enters in winter time. They said they would fix it, but still pending up till now. 2. The pains in the walls can easily peal off, but when you complain this problem with them, they said it’s “ standard practice”, they always use “ standard practice” as an excuse to avoid the responsibilities. 3. The concrete in my garage is full of cracks, from left to right, up to the bottom. But the concrete floor was finished a few months ago only . There is a crack in my basement floor too. However after they came to check the problem, the only thing they said is “ we followed the rules, there is nothing we could do about it”!! 4. My basement leek water from the first week me move in due to the fact that their contractors had punched one of the tubes in that connect to the ventilation system when they are making the dry wall. Problem fixed though, that was a very unpleasant experience. I regret buying a house from Trico.

    Answer from pro:

We are sorry to hear that you are not happy with your home. Trico Homes has worked with our trade contractors for several years and they have a very good reputation within the industry. Many of our customers are very happy with the quality of their home and we are confident that we meet and exceed industry standards. If there are outstanding concerns, I would ask that you talk to your warranty representative to have those matters resolved. Trico Homes follows the Government of Alberta Warranty guidelines and would never deny or misguide you if your concerns fall within those standards. Concrete cracks are something that is out of our control and will crack. If the crack is greater than 1/8" (inside your home) our service technician will fill the crack with an epoxy compound which is recommended under the government guidelines. We apologize for the leak in your basement. I'm happy to hear the problem was fixed and will agree that this type of issue is very unpleasant. We value your business and don't want you to regret purchasing a Trico Home. Please do not hesitate to contact the warranty department at anytime. I will investigate this matter further and speak with our team to ensure they are providing you with exceptional customer service. Nicole Walker, Customer Relations Manager

    Good company

Happy to say this company has been easy to deal with, starting with the sales staff. Hoping the few warranty issues will be dealt with as well as the buying process was.

    New home build

This is an honest review of my build with Trico homes. I work in the same industry with multiple builders where I can share a fair comparison. Starting with the sales team.. over the course of the build we ended up dealing with 5 different sales people before our house was complete. The staff turnover was quite irritating and in the end Kelsey was the only one who seemed to have a real grasp on the situation. They forgot to tell us about certain things while pricing., the biggest thing being an additional 10k we had to come up with to cover possible architectural controls after we were already given price of the home. The design center was the best part of the build. Sarah was awesome and helped us through every step of the design process. It was very stressful as you essentially pick everything in your home within a couple hours, but it was fun. The build process was average quality with normal issues and code problems. The only thing that stood out in my mind was a foundation wall crack that they were going to leave despite me questioning it. I believe it was filled though because of the town inspection that caught it as well. Their trades they had at the time of my build seemed decent. I was impressed by the electricians and HVAC installers in particular. The worst trade they had were the painters, they were terrible. We have overspray on almost all our cabinetry and the attention to detail was not there. The door mouldings are textured and have paint bubbles in multiple places. We were told that it is normal (which it isn’t). Trico will fulfill their side of the agreement and will satisfy their scope of work and overall we like the end product of our house. They did fail to tell us that our yard was going to be on an extreme slope that requires terracing and retaining walls. This is an expensive unexpected cost that I wish we would have known about before taking possession. I was surprised to see the final grade was as extreme as it was. Trico’s service department is prompt at responding to requests and their people are friendly. They will not do anything above and beyond or try to wow you with amazing service however. For example: if you have wall damage caused by something that’s is not your fault, they would come and fix that under your warranty period. If you had additional wall damage caused by something you may have done accidentally, I wouldn’t hold my breath that they would fix both. They do not do anything that is not required by their contract. Everyone we dealt with was very nice in person but the service general vibe we got was that they will fix what they have to but you are on your own for anything else. I was surprised by this as Trico is a popular builder in Calgary, I thought they would have treated their customers better. Most builders I have worked with in the past and present showed a lot more customer care than Trico.

DO NOT BUY A HOME FROM THIS COMPANY!...BUYER BEWARE!

Worst customer service we have ever experienced in our life. Once they have your money you are an absolute zero to them!. Office staff is completely disconnected from what happens in the field. Our 6 month old basement flooded as a direct result of Trico’s poor drainage design and they completely turned a blind eye to us in our time of need. No common sense, horrific customer service. Find another builder if you know what’s good for you!!!

    Answer from pro:

Trico Homes takes this type of feedback very seriously and when you reported the leak in your basement we immediately went to your home to conduct an inspection. Each and every home receives a final grade certificate. The excavator grades the home based on the developers recommendations and in turn the surveyor shoots the grades. The surveyors job is to confirm that all requirements have been met, including that the grade is sloping away from the home. Once confirmed, the certificate is stamped. A copy of the certificate is then provided to the customer. When the Trico service technician arrived at your home, it was apparent that the grade was altered due to the extensive landscaping and concrete work that was underway in the rear and side of the home. In addition, the downspout was not lowered causing water to pool at the foundation, making its way to the window that leaked. In the last month, the city of Calgary has received flash flooding on several occasions. On the day this occurred, there was flash flooding warnings all over the city and the rain was extensive. It's important that the exterior of the home is monitored during this time and if landscaping/concrete work is underway, the landscaper takes special precautions to ensure that water is directed away from the home. I was in touch with you on several occasions last week to discuss this matter. Trico values all customers and strives to provide exceptional customer service under the terms of our warranty program. If you would like to speak further, please do not hesitate to contact me. Nicole Walker, Customer Relations Manager
