    Clearing a clogged bathroom drain

Homestar’s Review: Gentlemen Plumbers: 5/10 Am I 100 % satisfied that my clogged sink is now serviced? Yes. Was the gentleman from Gentlemen Plumbers polite, respectful and professional? Yes, yes and yes. A gentleman if you will. Was the billing up front, direct and honest? Oh yes, but make no mistake the service was EXPENSIVE and my brief foray into the world of plumbing was an eye opener and I learned a few things. I was told they don’t bill by the hour but by the job. I thought ‘the job’ meant my JOB – the clogged sink, but no, that is not the case. The first ‘job’ was to basically clear the pea trap. The fee was added to the dispatch fee and I agreed to pay almost $300. Unfortunately, that ‘job’ was unsuccessful. The second’ job’ proposed, using the auger to clear the drain, was going to be close to $400 + dispatch fee. I was already in for almost $300 with no results so of course I agreed. It was successful. Thank God! A free home inspection was also offered, and the gentleman took a few minutes to check the other plumbing fixtures, furnace, hot water tanks and made some expected recommendations. The total time in our home was around an hour and a bit, so definitely efficient. I knew plumbers were expensive but an almost $500 price tag for basically 30-45 minutes of hair and gunk removal using a common tool of the trade is a lot. Perhaps this method of service is the norm and fees like these are familiar to people, but for this customer it was a learning curve, and more than our drain got cleaned, if you know what I mean. Elizabeth

    Answer from pro:

Hi Elizabeth, thank you so much for reaching out to us. We appreciate you telling us how happy you are with our technician. All of our guys work very hard and we pride ourselves on hiring the best. We also would like to apologize that you had a negative experience with the bill. We pride ourselves on always delivering an outstanding customer experience and we regret that we left you feeling anything but completely satisfied with our interaction. It is true that there is a cost associated with delivering a trusted and valued service and we do our best to remain competitive in the industry. Things that we offer, that many of our competition do not, are regular drug tests and criminal background checks on all of our technicians. Along with them showing up in fully stocked trucks, so that our licensed and insured technicians are able to start right away (saving you both time and money). We do understand, and appreciate, that this may have resulted in a sticker shock for you and we do apologize for that. We have shared your concerns with the owner of the company, the technician's supervisor, as well as our Care Manager (Mauri) so that we can investigate further in to your case. Thanks again!

    Overpriced and Disrespectful

So, my elderly mother called the "Gentlemen Plumbers" in Medicine Hat to install a tap. They quoted her the OUTRAGEOUS price of $740. My mother told them no thanks. They forced her into paying a call out fee for being there 10-15 minutes by THREATENING to sue her. So she paid them, and they left. I called several other plumbers who estimated over the phone around $300-$350 and each one warned us against this company. They are shady!!! My husband ended up installing the tap in no time. I phoned the company, demanded a receipt and the manager was supposed to call me back. They never called me.......bottom line is that they are horrible human beings and the least "gentlemanly " of them all.

    Answer from pro:

Hi there, thank you so much for reaching out to us. First off, we would like to apologize that Debbie had a poor experience with us. To our knowledge, there was no threat made, but we take these things very seriously and are doing an in-depth investigation to get to the bottom of things. We also find it quite odd that a request for a call back was not delivered upon. We have shared your concerns with the owner, the technician's supervisor (who you have spoken to), as well as our Care Manager, who will be in touch shortly. Thank you again!
