    Plumbing inspection

We just bought a house in Scarborough and have noticed that there is often a methane smell when we flush our toilet. I assumed it was either a venting problem or perhaps the toilet itself wasn't installed properly (ie. a bad seal). I called WaterWorks to get an opinion on the situation. The plumber that came to my door, Michael, was very friendly and knowledgeable and took the time to look around the house and explain things as he went. It did not feel rushed, and he didn't try to sell me on something that I didn't need. He gave me his best opinion, that it is a venting issue behind the walls, and after asking if I'm handy recommended that I open up a small hole in the wall and take a look at the vent behind the toilet. He explained what I would need to do in detail which was very much appreciated. He also said I could call or send him an email to ask further questions, or just to show him what I found. Great experience, and will definitely use them again.

Fine for small repairs, not big projects

We called in WaterWorks when we discovered we had a mysterious water leak and could not find the source. They visited on at least 3 occasions and tried various fixes trying to isolate the problem. We were happy with their work until that point. When we finally decided the only solution was to run new water lines we asked for a quote and a that point we became very dissatisfied. They tried to charge us for the quote (after spending $1,500 trying to solve the problem). Then they said it would take 3 men 3-5 days to do the work, we'd also need to rent a Porta Potty and a water tank and it would cost over $10,000. We ended up paying another company $2,000 and it took 1 man 2 days to do the work. This has undermined our confidence in WaterWorks and we would not use them again.

HI Kate, thank you for sharing your review, however this review contains many inaccuracies. As you told me on our phone call this was not written by you and by your partner.I always enjoy reading truthful reviews and would have expected a more truthful accounting of events. Firstly, I myself did the estimate at NO CHARGE. Secondly with my follow up call to you you told me that your plumber cut open your walls and ceilings to run the pipework in the cheaper Pex plastic tubing. As a petro chemical engineer I would of thought you would have expected a better job from your plumber. This is a shortcut that Will add a large cost of several thousands of dollars to plaster/drywall and paint your home, Never mind all the dust, debris and inconvenience. Btw ,your contractor only has 6 years experience as stated by the BBB(Business started in 2007) ,Not the 15 he claims. My proposal at around $8000+hst (minus your initial costs of $1500, was to hide all of the COPPER piping in your heated attic.and cause little or no damage to your home. As the old saying goes "Cheap work ain't good and Good work ain't Cheap." Enough said, wishing you all the very best. Michael Yuffa, The Water Works Plumbing & Drains Inc.

    Plumbing assessment

I think Waterworks is a very capable plumbing company and have no doubts about their ability to do good work, and they are courteous and professional. However, the pricing is off the charts! Over $500 for a toilet install. I've had other top Homestars plumbers do a toilet for $200, and finally had the thing installed for $340 because my other guy was busy. Either way, Waterworks came out as costing about double the average of the other guys.

Replace kitchen faucet and repair pop-up drains in bathroom sink and tub

I've never been a fan of tradespeople. I had far too many unsatisfactory experiences with dodgy, unprofessional and poor-mannered tradie types in the past. When the need for a plumber came along, I did some research on contracting only the best, the Water Works Plumbing. Larry was the first plumber who came to my home to evaluate the condition of a basement toilet. He took his time and very honestly explained to me why repairing wouldn't be feasible and that by replacing it with a new one I didn't have to worry about future possible break-downs. Larry is trustworthy and hardworking professional. Just recently, I had to have work done on my kitchen faucet, and I met Michael. He went down to business and instantly found the problem. I needed a new faucet as this was rusted and ready to cave in. Michael quickly got to work and installed a brand new one that is a far better quality then the previous. I had issues in my bathroom also, and thought while Michael is here, why not show\mention them to him. The pop-up drains in my bathtub and sink were not working and were removed some time ago and stored in a drawer. Without any hesitation, he said he can fix these and took the old parts with him to try to find new ones. He did come back with the replacement pieces but those didn't quite fit. With utmost patience he manually worked on these drain covers to readjust and made it perfect. Michael made my day and lifted my spirit just by seeing how well he transformed the look and function to the original...no more rubber plugs! I found Michael courteous, efficient, and I'm sure all the other employees are at Water Works very professional and thorough with good attention to detail. I highly recommend Water Works and will use them again as the need arises. A big thank you to Natasha also, for her pleasant manner and patience on the telephone. Her timely follow-up with customers and the ability to understand their needs are commendable. Regards, Susan

    General Plumbing Help

I had several plumbing issues: a couple of older toilets, some caulking that needed upgrading around two bathtubs, and (most important) water backing up into my basement. I had a mixed experience with WaterWorks Plumbing. First the positives: I got through to someone on the phone right away, an appointment was booked for a week's time. The plumber arrived to the minute that he said he would. The plumber seemed competent and was thorough. He put a new flap in a toilet that needed one at no extra charge. The cost of the visit was $67.24, which strikes me as very reasonable for a call-out considering how much time he took assessing my plumbing issues. The negatives relate to the cost of the work if I'd gone ahead with WaterWorks. Here are the quotes I was given: To re-caulk a bath: $331.12 To pull and reinstall a toilet: $345.08 To replace a toilet: $847.62 To remove and reinstall a section of my planter wall to address the basement issue: $1448.20 To excavate and fix the outside plumbing that is causing the basement issue: $3848.47 My initial reaction was that the prices seemed a bit high. I went on-line and found some youtube clips on how to reinstall a toilet and how to caulk a bathtub. I did the bathtub caulking yesterday. It took me under one hour even though it was my first time. It wasn't difficult and the materials cost under $20. I think the quote was way too high. The clips on how to reinstall a toilet look equally straight forward and the materials needed are not expensive. I built my outdoor retainer wall myself a couple of years ago, so I know that $1448 to remove and then reposition a small section of it is unreasonably high. I will not be having WaterWorks do any of these jobs. Conclusion: friendly, competent, but way over-charging.
